Did anybody see O'Reilly last night?
I never watch the guy -- honest -- but I was just channel-surfing last night and paused long enough to listen to part of his daily rant. In the same breath, he said that people who encourage terrorists (he was referring to Newsweek) are "treasonous" and then said that our troops inflamed anti-American passions be desecrating the Koran. WTF?

Is there nothing that will make that guy's head explode?

1. This is the line that some Conservatoids are pursuing
They can't deny the existance of prisoner abuse or koran abuse for too much longer, so they are going to condemn it, sort of. But they try to suggest that the real problem isn't that soldiers are desecrating the koran but that Reporters are reporting the desecration. Because it's unpatriotic to tell the truth in a time of war.

2. It's ok to cut taxes and pretend like we're really not at war

4. The Rumsfeld Doctrine (tm)
The problem isn't that we are doing bad things, it's that people have the audacity to report those things that is bad.

8. Why I particularly like...
Is the way that express their "disgust" at the Amnesty International Report, but don't specifically deny any of the details. Classic "kill the messenger" mentality.

9. Plausible Deniability
One of the prime games in the Repugnican and wingnut rhetorical playbook. When you're conflicted or caught in a lie, create a contorted answer that just messes up the entire subject...the detractors will go away, the supporters will think you stood up to them.

As someone else also noted, many people in this country WANT to hear lies about this war. They want so badly to believe we're kicking ass and taking names. They also have the inbred "superiority" of America...the byproduct of decades of our corporate media feeding us a very distorted and limited view of the "outside world" and other cultures...and now manifests itself in xenophobia and outright racism and hatred.

The deal is most O'Reilly and other hate TV and radio accolytes like the concept of desecrating the Koran and showing them "A-rabs" whose boss here. It's the same mindset geared toward Mexicans and immigration and translated to other groups as well. Remember fear and hate these people.

As to "don't watch". Why not, you're paying for it...might as well see what the other universe is being fed. As the old saying goes..."know your enemy as they won't take the time to know you". I find popping on these channels once and a while help reaffirm my own beliefs on things and prepare me for the next spin or distortion this regime and its corporate media cronies are gonna try to get away with.
