Sex and Science are being subjected to the religious litmus test by |
|
the RW ignoramuses.
Look at it this way.How stupid do you have to be in order to be against sex and the joys it can bring? It is a primal instinct vital for our species and these dum dums want to make it dirty at every turn. The kill joys will fail. All they have to do is ask Jimmy Swaggart or Jim Bakker.
Science and Reason are two of the pillars of our Western Society. These luddites want to eliminate any Science that they suspect puts the Biblical worldview under question. In the process, they deny opportunities for curing a vast array of previously intractable diseases. They are just sick.I don't think there is any stem cell research that can cure their ignorance.

4. You need to look at what the Muslim religion was like before they |
|
fell into the dark ages. After Mohammad came, they rose to a great height in trade, art, architecture, math, peace, prosperity. They went from Spain to Africa to the Middle East. They did this because of religion. And like all things, including Christianity, they began to rot from the inside and became corrupt and wilted. Religion goes both ways.

3. I'm with you, KlatooBNikto... |

this is just one more area where scientists will flee this country for more favorable research climes. Also, I'd just like to say that I would rather my child saw sex in film over violence...I can explain sex (and should) but I can't explain violence. For me, this is at the heart of the difference between our secular vs. faith-based governance debate.

5. Control Games...Almost Sadistic |
|
I once asked a fundie friend why his church was so "stuck up" when it came to religion and he was very candid with me...blew me away.
He said that sex is one of the most controlling influences in a person's life...specifically a man's...control that and control the man. Woman are man's reward, as they get to control them...(the piss down theory) and the pecking order is set. There's no question or deviation from this concept...and many have lived with it all their lives, they know no other mindset.
When you listen to these people, you can see how simplistic their world and worldview is and how they like it that way. They need the regiment and the "order" since they are beset by so many demons and evils that their faith has dictated are bad and best left in control of others. Thus sex for reproductive purposes are accepted...even if that includes killing the same embryos that could save living beings. Controlling sex also control "the stock"...if the religion makes intermixing with races or other cultures/religions taboo, then that is worked into the equation.
Of course we see time and time again how these people are so conflicted and frustrated it manifests itself in some pretty kinky things. A Jimmy Swaggart could disconnect from his own rhetoric about sex while chasing hookers...and his herd accepted this. The Bible just gives them a "passbook" to create their own world and control games. When it stays in their world, I have no problem with it...when it crosses over into mine, THEN we're ready to fight!

6. Fantastic analysis, KharmaTrain! |
|
tying in the whole "conflicted and frustrated" thing really brings it home. Seems we're seeing it again with folks like the mayor in Spokane.

7. Think When You Were A Kid |
|
Most of us would rebel in one way or another when we were told "No" to something. If it was something we were curious about or liked and were told "No" without any justification, then the curiosity gets piqued and can lead to some interesting conflicting behavior patterns.
This gets even more intense when you use these "Nos" as punishment. If there's no explanation it can and does lead to a lifelong game of questioning and/or breaking those rules. For some it's a statement to themselves of their own identity.
In some cases, like I suspect with the Mayor of Spokane and Catholic priests, the frustration, represession and the constantly dogma and lifestyle that focuses on these pressure points has to create a release in some other direction.
What drives fundies goofy is when you attempt to have them talk about "free will". Try and see if they can define it...then ask them where the limits are to it. You'll see contortions Mary Lou Retton would be proud of.
Cheers and thank you!
