Swedish Foreign Minister Lindh called Bush a 'lone ranger;' she's felled by an 'unknown' assassin

September 16, 2003—You wouldn't know that another tragedy occurred this September 11 in Sweden. Considering that day's television "news" coverage, which will, in the future, surely become even more wrapped up in xenophobic patriotism after George W. Bush declared September 11, in perpetuity, "Patriot Day," it is not surprising that there was barely any coverage on US television of the tragic death of Sweden's 46 year-young Foreign Minister Anna Lindh.

Widely seen as a future prime minister, Lindh was stabbed on the afternoon of September 10 by an "unknown assailant" while shopping at a Stockholm department store and died after intensive surgery on September 11.

Lindh, who was married and had two children, had been a vocal critic of the Bush regime's insane march to war. She also took on Italy's Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, a mafioso media mogul and right-wing clone of Fox's Rupert Murdoch.

Lindh's death preceded this past Sunday's referendum in Sweden on whether the country should joining the euro zone. Lindh was a firm backer of a yes vote on the referendum, which would add the weight of Sweden's strong economy to the European currency that continues to pound down the value of the US dollar on the international currency markets.
