"Fuck Saddam. We're taking him out."
"Fuck Saddam. We're taking him out."
- George W. Bush, March 2002

http://www.time.com/time/archive/preview/0,10987,1101030331-435968,00.html

This quote summarizes the spirit and essence of the Downing Street Minutes. Please ram this quote down the throat of every repug that you come across.

In addition, these quotes are lovely side pieces to the above:
"(Saddam Hussein) has not developed any significant capability with respect to weapons of mass destruction. He is unable to project conventional power against his neighbours."
- Colin Powell, February 24, 2001

"We are able to keep his arms from him. His military forces have not been rebuilt."
- Condoleeza Rice, July 2001

4. Some other choice tidbits
"All patriotic Iraqis should embrace this resolution <1441> as an opportunity for Iraq to avoid war and end its isolation...The United States prefers that Iraq meet its obligations voluntarily."
President Bush
Address to the Nation
November 8, 2002

"Even now, he could end his defiance and dramatically change directions...You see, the use of military force is this nation's last option, its last choice."
President Bush
Fort Hood Army Base
January 3, 2003

"The president is serious about consultation. The president is serious about diplomacy. He hopes it will work, and he wants to give it time to work."
White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer
January 30, 2003

"...reaffirming the commitment of all Member States to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq, Kuwait, and the neighbouring States..."
US-authored Security Council draft resolution
March 7, 2003

"The Vice President dropped by a Senate Republican policy lunch soon after his 10-day tour of the Middle East ...Before he spoke, he said no one should repeat what he said. Then he gave them some surprising news. The question was no longer if the U.S. would attack Iraq, he said. The only question was when."

17. I hope so
This will also show that Cheney was involved and should be impeached too. I think the whole lot of them should be. From Rumsfeld with everything at Guntanamo and Abu Grhaib and Rice for lying about all the 9/11 information she withheld and helping Bush with Iraq.

Couldn't happen to a nicer buncha guys. Too bad a truly great American will go down with them. Colin Powell could have done great things for this country, IMO.

Will you people stop worshipping at the altar of the architect of the My Lai coverup , the daddy of Michael Powell, who got his opportunism and sleazy sell to the highest bidder values straight from his daddy!

Colin Powell is a smarmy, opportunistic bootlicker whose only concern has always been his own careerist ambitions. He had a reputation that was undeserved in the first place, but he could have used it in the service of good while he was Sec of State, but he wasn't going to rock the boat, because it might not polish his resume if he did.

He is NOT a good guy. NOT NOT NOT!!!

5. Right on!
I've noted this item from Time a few times since the invasion occurred, and I think it's just as good evidence as the DSM that Bush lied about his intentions. Thanks for posting it again!

his "poswer" lingers on.

The lead to that article ought to be plastered everywhere.

Actually it should have been plastered everywhere in 2002....Noit only for what it reveals about the phoniness of their "effort to avoid war" but also for showing Bush's, um, colorful use of language for a supposedly pure Christian.

14. Here's an email floating around. Copy and forward it:
Don't you wonder why the White House has only indirectly hinted about the Downing Street Meeting Minutes?

Consider the dates of these quotes:

Saddam "has not developed any significant capability with respect to weapons of mass destruction. He is unable to project conventional power against his neighbors."
-- Colon Powell, February 2001 <http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/truth/why/said.html>

"We are able to keep his arms from him. His military forces have not been rebuilt."
-- Condoleeza Rice, July 2001 <http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/allnews/content_objectid=13434081_method=full_siteid=50143_headline=-THE-BIG-LIE-name_page.html>

"Saddam Hussein's bottled up."
-- Dick Cheney, September 2001 <http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/truth/why/said.html>

"Fuck Saddam. We're taking him out."
-- George W. Bush, March 2002 <http://www.time.com/time/archive/preview/0,10987,1101030331-435968,00.html>

"There was a perceptible shift in attitude. Military action was now seen as inevitable. Bush wanted to remove Saddam, through military action, justified by the conjunction of terrorism and WMD. But the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy."
-- Downing Street Meeting Minutes, July 2002

Clearly, the Downing Street Meeting Minutes are the missing piece to the puzzle. How else can the Bush go from "Saddam Hussein's bottled up" to "Fuck Saddam we're taking him out" in six months?

The White House must either admit Powell, Rice, and Cheney were lying or admit that the Downing Street Meeting Minutes were correct and that Bush had decided to throw the country into war against Iraq at least by March 2002.

18. Thank you for posting this! That quote says it all.
Cheney's does the same thing.

War was always their choice; not the option of last resort.

If I was *, I wouldn't be too anxious for the Rapture. Like the bumpersticker says: "Jesus is coming. And boy is he pissed."
