Analogy for democrat politics |
|
I've been gone for a while because I'm having employment problems and also I became frustrated by all the "anybody but bush" talk, and emphasis on "winning"... Which (I would think it would be obvious but...) sounds moronic to me, because winning is only good if you win something that is good, right?
The analogy. You're in a prison camp and you get to vote for a warden. The issues are:
* Execution (you get killed or you don't get killed) * Quality of food (you get better food or you get horrid food) * Time in the yard (you get time in the yard or you get 20 minutes in a cell to pace in)
The right-wing pushes for a warden who's policies will be that:
You get killed You get horrid food You get 20 minutes to pace in an open top cell
The lunatic fringe wackos (like me) vote for a warden who's policies will be that:
You don't get killed You get better food You get time in the yard
The liberals consider the lunatic fringe wackos as idealistic and say. Look everyone want's criminals to be killed, there's no way you will win if you promote such unpopular policies. Be practical and go for the middle of the road warden. Sure, you get killed and you get horrid food, BUT you get time in the yard.
For me, the republicans and the stealth republicans seem sure to win, so I don't think the major thrust of my political action can take the form for promoting candidates beyond casual effort. In my spare time, I'll vote for the candidate that is most practical to vote for at election time, in terms of promoting an environment conducive to continuing the fight against the rulers.

Albright, i think, said that it's most analogous to a circular firing squad.

2. When it's you against the world, |
|
bet on the world. But still, what is the point of living if not having integrity and contributing? Speak your mind. Even if you are sure you will lose. Try to convince others of your position. Even if you are sure they won't change. The journey is worth as much as the destination (some say more). Participate by informing and staying informed, change when you are wrong, and politely persist when you think you are right.

4. All of the rules have changed. The Right Wing doesn't play by our rules. |
|
We no longer have the option of not winning. If we do not win we lose and the world will change in a way that will preclude our philosophy or ethic from ever regaining a foothold. The leaders of the congress, the current administration, the courts, and the media want the political system destroyed and are willing to do what it takes to see that happen.
Either we come together and recognize the threat, or, we will rue our inability for collective action. We no longer have the luxury of waiting until the next time. There well may be no next time.
