Poll question: Should the prison at Guantanamo Bay be closed?
I see people saying things like, 'he should be sent to Gitmo' etc.... but that's just rhetoric, right? If we were in power one of the first things we'd do is close down that travesty - right?

2. We'll need it for the Men Without a Country

when we get rid of the treasonous administration.

I'm sure they'll welcome it because they know how wonderful the treatment is there.

3. Supreme Court has rejected reason for using this prison
The initial reason why the Bushies set up the prison at Guantanamo Bay was based on a 1950's Supreme Court case that seemed to say that US Courts had no jurisdiction over prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay. The Supreme Court has rejected that theory and it is clear that the Federal courts do have jurisdiction over what happens at Guantanamo Bay. This prison has become a symbol of US torture and oppression and should be shut down.

5. shut it down but...
they seem to have 'secret prisons' all over. All they'd do is transfer the prisoners elsewhere and still torture them.

8. Jerry Spring was discussing that subject today. I'm still not sure that I
am convinced. If we close Gitmo, there has to be place to put prisoners and after awhile it would have the same reputation (deserved or not.)

10. Yes, but it won't change anything
They'll just find a new place to torture people.

12. not just the prison

the whole base should be shut down. The terms of the lease require that both sides desire to continue the arangement. Castro has wisely not accepted any payment for use of the land. I would kick out the U.S. forcing us to find a farther away and more expensive locale.

13. I've actually been to Guantanamo.
I wonder how many DUers have... long before we built a prison camp there, though...
