MSM Waking up - MSNBC gives DSM 20 minute segment
Ron Reagan and Monica Crowley covered it on "Coast to Coast".

I'd say that's a good start to some decent media attention. Drip.....drip....drip......

Wait 'til Kerry gives his speech and Conyers delivers his signatures.

BTW - one of the Wingers defenses was ":"EVERYBODY thought Saddam had WMD's"

WRONG!

George W. Bush (October 2002) "The evidence indicates that Iraq is reconstituting
its nuclear weapons program."

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2002/10/20021007-8.html

Mohammed ElBaradei (International Atomic Energy Agency Director):

"We have to date found no evidence that Iraq has revived its nuclear
weapon program since the elimination of the program in the 1990s.”

http://www.pbs.org/newshour/updates/iraq_01-27-03.html
=============================================
George W. Bush (October 2002): “Satellite photographs reveal that Iraq is
rebuilding facilities at sites that have been part of its nuclear program in the
past.”

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2002/10/20021007-8.html

Mohammed ElBaradei (International Atomic Energy Agency Director):

“First, we have been inspected all of those buildings and facilities that
were identified through satellite imagery as having been modified or
constructed over the past four years. The IAEA inspectors have been
able to gain ready access and to clarify the nature of the activities
currently being conducted in these facilities. No prohibited nuclear
activities have been identified during these inspections.”

http://www.usembassy.it/file2003_01/alia/a3012703.htm
===========================================
George W. Bush (October 2002): “Iraq has attempted to purchase high-strength
aluminum tubes and other equipment needed for gas centrifuges, which are used to
enrich uranium for nuclear weapons.”

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2002/10/20021007-8.html

Mohammed ElBaradei (International Atomic Energy Agency Director): “

"A particular issue of focus has been the attempted procurement by
Iraq of high-strength aluminum tubes, and the question of whether these
tubes, if acquired, could be used for the manufacture of nuclear
centrifuge. Iraqi authorities have indicated that their unsuccessful
attempts to procure the aluminum tubes related to a program to
reverse-engineer conventional rockets. To verify this information, the
IAEA inspectors have inspected the relevant rocket production
and storage sites, taken tube samples, interviewed relevant Iraqi
personnel, and reviewed procurement contracts and related documents.
>From our analysis to date, it appears that the aluminum tubes would be
consistent with the purposes stated by Iraq and, unless modified,
would not be suitable for manufacturing centrifuges.”

Edited on Mon Jun-06-05 06:17 PM by Terre
Wish they hadn't made it 2 against 1 though, but coming from MSNBC it doesn't surprise me. Ron is becoming more of a weinie every day. *sigh* Bob Fesmire did real well though for the little time they allotted him.

YEAH for our side!

6. Ron is falling into the same trap ALL news lefties do...bending backwards
to appear as if the other side actually has a reasonable argument, instead of calling partisan bullshit and coverup for all the lies.

19. Leftieitis? I think it's the boundaries that corporate media FORCES on the
left, while the right is given all the leeway they need, because of the assinine fallacy that the media is "liberal" - so the corporate masters get to pull the chain on the left as tightly as they please.

21. Yup
and you can see him bite his tongue when Monica started on her first tirade. Ron is becoming too much of a wussie. He was much more forceful when he did commentating on Hardball.

What bothered me most about what Ron said (near the beginning) was that he agreed that the DSM was "old news" (regarding the policy of regime change).

Why can't anyone get it through their heads that what may be "old news" to the MSM, is NOT "old news" to many of us, especially when you consider that most of us never heard of his damn policy in the first place! You can be sure if the American people KNEW it, we never, ever, would have supported regime change by force.

Anyway, I think Bob did REALLY well, considering the short amount of time he had.

13. You're absolutely correct!
I didn't realize it until you brought it up and I turned to trusty Google. This is what I found.....

"Many of the 35 members of the IAEA’s board of governors are rightly suspicious that U.S. opposition to ElBaradei has
more to do with politics than principle. During a recent visit to Europe, IAEA officials told me privately that U.S.
opposition is thought to stem from a personal vendetta against ElBaradei on the part of former Under
Secretary of State John Bolton
, now President Bush’s nominee as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
Bolton wants ElBaradei out, officials say, and a more compliant director general appointed. Bolton directed a
similar operation in 2002 that forced Jose Bustani to resign as head of the organization that oversees
implementation of the Chemical Weapons Treaty.

What are ElBaradei’s sins? His opposition to the war in Iraq and his supposedly “soft” position on Iran’s
nuclear program. ElBaradei led weapons inspectors into Iraq in November 2002. By January 2003, as the full
court press for war in Iraq was reaching an apex, ElBaradei reported that his team could not find any evidence
to support the U.S. claim that Iraq had reconstituted its nuclear weapons program. And his March 2003
findings, sent to the U.N. Security Council, refuted all of the purported evidence of an active Iraqi nuclear
program, including the infamous aluminum tubes, uranium from Niger, and reactivated nuclear production
plants."

17. The Democrats thought Saddam had weapons, too!
Yeah, but the Democrats weren't in possession of the latest intelligence, only trusting what they were told by the corrupt Bush administration.

And it was the corrupt Bush administration that wove together the tissue of lies as a pretext for launching their invasion, and wasting all those lives, all that money, and plunging our nation into billions and billions of dollars in debt making us more beholden than ever to foreign creditors like the Chinese to prop up our economy.

Compare and contrast that with the Clinton years: Clinton never sent a man into combat who didn't come back alive (it was Bush the Smarter who sent the troops into Somalia), balanced the budget and actually began paying down the deficit while the Dow Jones Industrial Average tripled during his administration.

24. Even if some DEMS believed that Saddam had ....
Edited on Mon Jun-06-05 07:11 PM by bvar22
...some WMD, none of them including Bill Clinton thought that the intelligence they saw was worth a FULL SCALE INVASION and OCCUPATION. Bill Clinton and the Democrats advocated inspections and containment, and they were 100% correct.

Here are some more relevant quotes when the ReichWing says everyone thought Saddam had WMDs.

Why did all of these National Security Experts suddenly change their position 180 degrees after 9-11???

..."seven months before 9/11, George Tenet testified before Congress that Iraq posed no immediate threat to the United States."

"in a Feb. 12, 2001 interview with the Fox News Channel Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld said: “Iraq is probably not a nuclear threat at the present time.”

"...intelligence reports released by the CIA and more than 100 interviews top officials in the Bush administration, such as Secretary of State Colin Powell, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz, gave to various Senate and Congressional committees and media outlets prior to 9-11 show that the U.S. never believed Saddam Hussein to be an imminent threat other than to his own people."

http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/HL0306/S00211.htm

and this:

" And frankly they (the UN Sanctions) have worked. He (Saddam) has not developed any significant capability with respect to weapons of mass destruction. He is unable to project conventional power against his neighbors." Colin Powell Feb 24, 2001

"But in terms of Saddam Hussein being there, let's remember that his country is divided, in effect. He does not control the northern part of his country. We are able to keep arms from him. His military forces have not been rebuilt." ---Condoleezza Rice on CNN July 29, 2001

http://www.thememoryhole.org/war/powell-no-wmd.htm

In that last quote just 6 weeks before 9-11, Condo Rice admits that containment and inspections were 100% effective!
Why did she suddenly change her mind???
