Governor of Texas to gay residents who want to marry: MOVE!!!
Edited on Mon Jun-06-05 08:25 PM by Bluebear
FORT WORTH, Texas -- In a ceremony filled with religious references, Gov. Rick Perry signed a bill at a church school gymnasium Sunday that imposes more limits on late-term abortions and requires minor girls to get written parental consent for abortions.

"And it has been a tragedy of unspeakable consequences that for decades activist courts denied many Texas parents their right to be involved in one of the most important decisions their young daughter could ever make -- whether to end the life that was growing inside her," Perry told a crowd of about 1,000 people gathered at the Calvary Christian Academy. "For too long, a blind eye has been turned to the rights of our most vulnerable human beings -- that's the unborn in our society."

During the 1 1/2-hour program, Perry also signed a resolution to amend the Texas Constitution by banning same-sex marriages.

"Texans have made a decision about marriage and if there is some other state that has a more lenient view than Texas then maybe that's a better place for them to live," Perry said.

4. Please don't remind me
Thanks for the credit. :) Had to search the websites to find it. Heard it this morning right after I woke up still in a daze so I couldn't remember which station said it.

3. Political asylum
I've said it before, and this reinforces that -- some gay couple needs to be a test case for gaining refugee status in a more friendly nation, such as Canada. Perry's statement is first-rate evidence of persecution.

I'm sick and tired of paying taxes in a country where I'm not welcome, quite often by Democrats and Republicans alike.

5. Well, Canada appears to be out
Edited on Mon Jun-06-05 08:29 PM by Bluebear
OTTAWA, December 29, 2004 — Citizenship and Immigration Minister Judy Sgro today announced the coming into force of the Safe Third Country Agreement with the United States.

“I am pleased that Canada and the United States are working together to implement this agreement that will further our collaboration on refugee protection at the land border,” said Minister Sgro. “This agreement is in full compliance with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) principles and guidelines where the first country of asylum is the country where the claim will be heard. The UNHCR will be a full partner in the implementation and the monitoring of the agreement.”

As of today, certain asylum seekers in Canada and the United States will be required to make their claim in the country where they were last present. This means that asylum seekers arriving in Canada at the land border from the United States will not be eligible to have their refugee claim determined in Canada, unless they fall within an exception as outlined in the amended regulations governing the agreement. Similarly, the agreement allows the United States to return to Canada asylum seekers attempting to enter the United States from Canada.

The agreement applies only to refugee claims made at a land border port of entry, and not refugee claims made at airports, marine ports or inland offices. Therefore, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has a primary role in implementing it as ports of entry are staffed by CBSA officers.

With this agreement, both Canada and the United States are meeting their international obligations related to refugee protection. The agreement is part of the 32-point action plan associated with the Smart Border Declaration signed by Canada and the United States.

The objective of the Safe Third Country Agreement is to create an effective measure o

f control, necessary to better manage access to Canada’s refugee determination system. In fact, the agreement will enhance the orderly handling of refugee claims and strengthen public confidence in the integrity of the asylum systems of both countries.

Canada and the United States signed the Smart Border Declaration in December 2001 to ensure the secure and efficient movement of goods and people across our shared border. The associated 32-point action plan covers a range of initiatives, and departments in both countries will work together to achieve their mutual objectives.

14. Minnesota is still, alas, part of the USA
Heck, I'm in oh-so-gay California, and I'm sick of how we're treated. I'm sick of the nonstop attempts to take away what rights we have. I'm sick of seeing my federal tax bill go toward a government that won't let me marry the person I love -- if I could even find such a person because so many of them are hiding in fear. I'm sick of seeing my very right to exist questioned by so many supposed "liberals" and "progressives," leaving me nowhere to turn for support. And neither my finances nor my situation are such that I can merely up and take my chances with Canada's skilled-worker immigration system.

In short, I'm sick of what my country has become, what it's doing to me, and the dwindling chances of it becoming anything better in my lifetime.

29. I am too
I sometimes wonder how people can hate us so much. I mean, I can't say I relate to being straight but I don't hate straight men. I just can't get my mind around this. I probably should be able to, but I just can't.

22. Ode to Governor Good-Hair
Governor Perry thought it awkward & scarey
For same-sex folks to willingly marry
He placed a call to a church he knew
To sign the bill that asserts 'I do'
Is meant for only one woman, one man
This is Texas, goddamit, and laws of the land
Must reflect moral codes like Moses & Jesus
from the western oil towns to the mouth of the Brazos

The red staters loved it and all clapped their paws
They felt that Jesus was inspiring their laws
And bannin' the queers was a durn fine cause
But brimstone sticks in the righteous craws

of the fools in the crowd who are holding the stones
Preparing to throw them at witches and crones
and whores and anyone caught of either the sexes
God damn the nuts & the Governor of Texas

The GLBT community in Texas has every reason to be very concerned today. Perry's remark is just the kind of thing to set the hate mongering yahoos off.

34. It got bad under Reagan but not as bad as this
There's a new boldness to the hate in America now. Well, renewed boldness. The mentality we are seeing now is the same mentality that gave us lynchings and Jim Crow.

These people feel justified in their hate. They feel vindicated by their hate, especially with the acceptance and encouragement of their hate by the Bush Cabal.

It's gone beyond self-righteous...it's become pathology accepted as family values....and that same pathology is now becoming law.

26. No asswipe, one of the most important decisions their daughter
could make would be which college to choose, what to major in, whether to marry him when he proposed, when to stop using the pill and try to get pregnant, to accept that job transfer or stay close to home...

The decision to abort is not one to take lightly... but it is not the most important decision a woman may make in her life.
