Here's how Xians can get along with atheists |
|
And, for that matter, anyone can get along with anyone else.
Look around you. Realize that there are people who have different lives from you. Realize that, though these lives may seem alien and unlike your own, it is the life that makes sense to those that are living them. Think about how perhaps your own life doesn't make sense to other people, and realize how nevertheless, your life makes sense and is important to you. Realize that although fair-minded people may disagree, fair-minded people work very hard on not being judgemental, or at least, not to make their judgements the basis for laws, policies, or prejudices. Think long and hard about how everyone is simply doing the best that they can to live in a way that makes sense for them. Breathe long and deep, and realize that you, too, are doing the best that you can to live in a way that makes sense for you. Realize that no one is really that different.
Repeat as necessary.

And it's something we all need to work on, too.

5. Unfortunately, each individual has to make peace within themselves |

And that can be more difficult for some folks.

They're the ones who have to live their lives their own way, just as the rest of us must.

12. What if in order to "live their own way" they wish to legislate their |

morality and convert everyone? Sounds like the existing situation (which is intolerable) and not a solution. What am I missing?
"Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law" vs. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"

17. Then the rest of us should stop them |
|
It's unfortunate but true that some people will decide their lives aren't complete so long as others are living in a way that is different from them. But then, those aren't folks who are really into getting along with others and the OP isn't really directed toward them.

6. Simpler. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." |
|
I'm an agnostic who believes that most "Christians" would be well advised to follow the advice of the guy who said that. For that matter, everyone would be well advised to follow that advice.

That's exactly what Christ did; he hung around with the prostitutes and tax collectors, and called out the publicly pious. Christianity is really about accepting the differences in the first place.

10. Evangelican Christianity assumes they alone are right ... |
|
... and that it is their duty to convert the otherwise hellbound. That is a basic principal of their religion. People who are Catholic, mainline Protestant, Jewish, Buddist or other do not bother me and I reciprocate. I even get along with most Rs, if you can believe that.
Regarding empathy, one guy I know who is an Evangelical said of Evangelicals generally that they are often long on truth but short on love. What an arrogant thing to say! (We were discussing gay marriage and I said denying it hurts a lot of people.) He meant that gays are sinners and all that crap, but he ought to feel sorry for them.

They follow the islamic laws! Bigot: n. A person who regards, his own views in any matters as unquestionably right, and any belief or opinion opposed to or differing from them as wicked. A person who is totally intolerant and obstinately and blindly devoted to his own belief and opinion.- "If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs"
