Adware/Spyware Problem
I am having problems with my computer.

I have a piece of Adware called "Aurora" and I can't seem to get rid of it. I ran spybot and Ad Aware SE, and a Virus Checker and it's still there.

Has anyone else had this problem? What did you do to get rid of it?

Thank you

..... www.cybertechhelp.com

My putey was infected with a really nasty piece of work about four or five months ago and nothing I had worked to remove it, I finally found this place on the net and within a day I had the problem resolved.

You will probably get quite a bit of advice from the more tech-savvy here as well, but cybertechelp is a great resource...

Cheers!

5. Put your computer in "safe mode"
Then find out if it is running when the computer starts up. If so, try to delete it. Then restart the computer and check it.

6. This is not just ad ware. It is a trojan
and one of the hard to kill vx2 family.

Before you begin the hunt for a working disinfectant, make sure you have a backup of all your documents, music and liscense keys or mail that you absolutely could not live without.

If you have used updated adaware (1.06) and spyblaster (1.3)and a good solid antivirus or two, and these have not managed to clean up your problem, then your not alone. Without the updates to these programs however you may miss something else that the newest versions will kill and which will clog up the log files you will need for troubleshooting.

If your uncomfortable with doing this yourself, seek a local tech with a good rep or contact a trusted geek friend to help you.

You need to download and run Hijackthis.exe.
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html
is the site I used most recently.
there is a log file analyzer at iamnotageek.com that will give you some clues as to what is benign software and what is malicious.

Use this program with care since it is all power and not idiot proofed one littel bit.

7. Try this
Aurora is a malicious adware program that tries to make itself
impossible to remove.

Before fixing the problem, be sure to call the creators at Direct
Revenue, LLC in New York to let them know how you feel about them
causing so much anguish. Their phone number is 646-613-0376, and they
are located at 107 Grand Street, 3rd Floor in Manhattan.

Now for the fix...go to http://www.mypctuneup.com/ and use this uninstaller.

Hopefully the anti-adware legislation going through Congress will help
put these scum out of business.

10. Thank you for posting this. I had been doing searches this past weekend
looking for a cure for Aurora. My ex-husband has it on his computer and asked me to help him out with it. I didn't see this link.

I am also going to give him the phone number for the company so he can give them a piece of his mind.

8. Try the Microsoft software
They bought a Spyware cleaner-upper company and released the software for free a few months ago. You can download it from MS website. It is an excellent product, it's free (for now), and they update spyware definitions about once a week or so to filter out the latest garbage. I had my doubts about it at first, but it really is a great product.

11. Most of these are good suggestions, however...
VX2 based malware is ever evolving (or more correctly ever changing by the companies) and some blackhats and jokers have started altering it to insert their own backdoors and keyloggers.

If the other suggestions don't work out, go to:
http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/Malware_Removal_HiJackThis_Logs_Go_Here-f37.html
and start a thread. Someone will help you step by step through cleaning it off your computer and immunizing to the extent possible.

I use ken in seattle as my handle there and on many other blogs. I am also available to fix any DEMOCRATS pc remotely via RealVNC or remote desktop for donations.
