I am getting so tired of the freeper types argument that their tax
dollars should not go to funding stem cell research or family planning since they believe it wrong.
Well I don't have a choice in the fact that my tax dollars are going to the torture & slaughter of innocents in Iraq & I find that morally reprehensible.

1. Like everything else they push, it's a hypocritical argument.

3. Face it, people who cant think past face value are Republicans....
Think being the operative word. Repubs just react, its all they can muster from between the ears.

4. My tax dollars are being spent at Gitmo
So I feel for them.

Are they in favor of each individual being able to select/veto where their tax investments go?

6. Welfare.
Don't forget welfare. There are right-wingers who swear that the bulk of their tax dollars goes to welfare recipients. They hang onto that notion like grim death.

9. The freepers may have a point.
Edited on Tue Jun-07-05 02:44 PM by Cleita
Some years ago a Democratic journalist, whose name eludes me now, suggested that we should have a choice about how our taxes are spent. It was suggested that a list of the budget items be printed at the end of the tax return. You would rank your priorities by 1,2,3, etc. Doing it was optional.

So I would vote for national health care (1), education (2),environment(3), etc. in that order. I think military would be number(5). The results would be tallied and sent to our legislators so they would know how people are thinking.

Is this a bad idea?

13. Better yet
Not pay that tax. Don't like faith-based welfare, don't pay the tax but you can't benefit from it. That should shut those freepers up...until they need food stamps or SS. LOL

18. not sure they would shut up
the rw feels a sense of entitlement tends to color their perspective on everything, especially their own hypocrisy. just look at all the 'morality' types who steal, molest children, beat their spouses and/or are into kinky sex. it's ok for them, but not for the rest of us.
a freeper would have the slightest problem taking food stamps or social security...it's the rest of us who don't deserve it.

10. It's one of the reasons I don't support Quaker war tax protests
There are good people in the Society of Friends who withhold the percent of their taxes which would go to the military.

Well, I understand the motivation, but if everyone withholds the portion of their taxes that goes to something they don't like (Medicaid, Welfare, DOE, whatever), then this country would be even more screwed than it is now.

11. Yeah, I don't like MY taxes going to KILL people around the world,
plotting to overthrow democratically elected gov'ts (Venezuela), or creating theocracies here at home.

Tough shit for me too.

12. My tax dollars shouldn't pay for roads torn up by oversized SUV's
because I think it's wrong.

But if you were to add 10 boxes across the top of everyone's tax form and all funding for whatever cabinet level office came from the boxes that were checked, you'd find that progressive causes were flush with cash and the mouthy "my tax dollar" types would put very little money into the things they say they support.

14. Ah, but in one sense they are not
Given the size of the deficit, one could argue that nobody's tax dollars are being spent on those activities. We are borrowing from future generations to fund those activities! Tell them that and watch their heads spin....

15. I know the way my tax dollars are being spent (wasted)
just boils me too, when I have to scrape just to pay my bills, and now the bills are just inflating like balloons and with the new bankruptcy bill, I had better make sure they are paid ON TIME, and don't mail a check out before the deposit, with the new electronic check transfers, you'll just rack up bounced checks like crazy... Just anything to stress an already stressed out American citizen...There'll come a point when people just give up and say "do your worse" I can't pay out, what I don't have.

20. Indeed
I'm tired of my tax dollars going to this immoral war, Chimpy's "faith based initiatives", corporate welfare, facsist "homeland security" programs that are just an excuse for unlimited spending and virtually unlimited restrictions on our freedoms, attempts to re-write the Constitution to further restrict my rights as a citizen, and so on, and so on.

for my tax dollars to fund Halliburton contracts? To fund an illegal war?

My tax dollars fund a 500 billion dollar a year conquest budget?

Hey freeptards, I'll tell you what: The progressives will fund health care and stem cell. You can fund the conquest budget. We'll see who has more disposable income at the end of the year.
