Conservatives continue to see Liberal bias in classrooms
Conservatives, as usual, are using the flag of "Academic Freedom" and "Freedom of Speech" to fight both:

Concerned that public schools are becoming sites of liberal indoctrination, activists have generated a wave of efforts to limit what teachers may discuss and to bring more conservative views into the classroom.

After all, they say, if related campaigns can help rein in doctrinaire faculty on college campuses, why not in K-12 education as well?

So far this year, at least 14 state legislatures have considered bills aimed at colleges that would restrict professors and establish grievance procedures for students who perceive political bias in teaching. None have become law, but the movement has momentum: Four state universities in Colorado, for instance, adopted the principles under legislative pressure in 2004.

"The last six months been kind of a watershed for the academic-freedom movement," says Bradley Shipp, national field director for Students for Academic Freedom, a group founded by conservative activist David Horowitz in 2003. "It is going to filter itself down to the K-12 level."

1. There's A Reason For This
it's called no money and a desire to teach. Two things republican's can't fathom.

13. I had many a fight
with my kids teachers over their being CONSERVATIVE and pushing their agenda. So, the poor right wing conservatives are complaining about THEIR kids being indoctrinated? lol Well, what about US? Or do these stupid right wing, religious NUTS believe that if you have given birth and are a parent, you MUST be conservative and right wing? WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. I have just as much right to impart MY views to my kids as they do.

It took my girls going into the real world of college and work to see for themselves and they DIDN'T chose the conservative, religious, right wing, because they found MOMMY and DADDY were right.

Oh, by the way, I am a Teacher's Assistant. I NEVER impart my views on politics or religion to anybody's else's kids. That is THEIR job, not mine.

5. Hey Dave! Howzabout a trade?
We give chancellorships of ten Ivy League Universities to conservatives if you turn over the board of directors to ten of the largest corporations in the US to liberals.

Sounds fair to me.

6. McCarthy continued to see commies under his bed.
One of the RWs favorite heroes! Repukes will not be happy until public education becomes private education.

7. It's really a truth bias. Most teachers prefer to teach truth as opposed
to propaganda and lies and the corporate, fascist global world's interpretation of history and facts.

8. Education and Conservatism don't mix
One is all about progress, building, and learning, building a full and balanced mind.
The other is about primitive, dark fears, selfishness, and the glorification of ignorance and social backwardness.

They don't mix and they never will. Conservatives don't look for a job that will enable them to shape and help the next generation: they look for a job that will earn them the only thing in which they see value, money.

10. Isn't academic freedom about ALLOWING speech
Restricting speech is exactly the opposite from academic freedom.

How long before some twit like Michelle Malkin recommends that felt stars be sewn on the clothes of "identified" liberals?

Oh, yeah, let freedom fucking ring!

12. Yep...just to add...
Many liberals consider teaching as the "most noble profession."

Conservatives follow the money.

15. These conservatives...
certainly didn't go to my Lutheran high school in the late 80s, where Reagan and the first Bush were celebrated daily by many on the teaching staff.

17. I went to a right leaning university...
Northwood University - They actually had a class that bashed FDR.I didn't complain, I stood my ground and argued with professors and students alike. Changed a few minds in the process. The Dean of the college actually told the other professor's not to bring up the Iraq War in class because I would make them look like the foolish chickenhawks they are.
