1. I'm sad she's gone. An incredible actress who was featured in some of
the best films of the late 20th Century.

RIP, Anne.....we will remember your work to honor your death.

Who didn't care how she looked in service to the role.

11. Of course, but
I was fortunate enough to get to know Mel Brooks a while back, and he's a tender soul. The kind of guy who would not have an easy time going on without his beloved wife of forty-one years. He's almost eighty years old. This is a huge blow for him.

12. So sad.
But think of how long their marriage lasted....a wonderful monument to her, I think, and to him as well. So sad.

16. You know.........
...... we're all gonna die, and artists don't get any special exemptions from that inevitability.

But, when you think about those two, you sort of hope for their immortality, that they should always be well and happy and productive.

Don't you?

17. Hmmmm. Yes.
You know, when I first learned that she was married to Mel Brooks, I couldn't believe it. She was so classy and vogueish--but when I saw the cameos she did in his comedies, SHE WAS REALLY FUNNY. A sort of bawdy wench, if you will. They were magic together.

18. Uh Huh.
And without her, I don't think Dustin Hoffmann would have had a career; at least not that soon.

And to "Mel." Sorry. She reminds me of Lauren Becall in that photo.

19. She had so many gifts. Since I no longer get my news from the Tube
less it's Democracy Now, Int'l BBC and C-Span I didn't know till I logged in here.

Was she sick? Or did it happen suddenly? Wondering if Mell has a website where we can email him condolences...

22. The reports I saw said cancer.
Didn't specify which type. She was 73 - not all that old, these days.

She has always been one of my favorite actresses, and she could do the entire range, from heavy drama to comedy.

Mel Brooks once did an interview for Playboy, where he mentioned that their marriage was hilarious - that even when they fought, they would start laughing over how absurd it was.

My absolute favorite Bancroft movie is Garbo Talks. She was marvelous as the ailing activist who wants to meet Greta Garbo before she dies.

20. The last time I saw her
was on the season finale of Larry David's show "Curb Your Enthusiasm". She and Mel Brooks had a cameo in an ironic "Producers" style twist. Very funny. And she looked fabulous.

21. Yes. They were at the bar ....
Relishing the time off he would have because Larry would be such a bomb. But he wasn't. Kind of a mirror of "The Producers" itself. Very clever. And you're right. She looked wonderful.

24. For another side of Anna Marie Italiano watch her 1980 directorial debut
with Fatso, a small but riotously funny film starring Dom DeLuise. She ddirected and acted in it. It is a whole other side of her. I suspect a fairly accurate view of her.

Not only was she a great actor and a class lady, she was also warm and very funny.

Bona notte, Signora Robinson. Riposarsi nella pace Signora Brooks.
