8. My 78 year old mother.................

who has never voted for a Democrat in her entire life, has emphaticaly stated that she will vote for "any Democrat" to get Bush out of Washington and "get our country back". Of course I've been providing her with snippets of the truth along the way. I've told her things about the Bushies that she refused to believe until the media finally got a backbone and started to report them. My star has risen in her eyes and she's no longer reluctant to take what I tell her as true. I'm quite proud of myself, I've deprogrammed my mother. She no longer belongs to that insideous cult known as the Republican party.

I just got off the phone with my 67-year-old mother, who insisted on reading me some pompous bullshit that Bill O'Reilly wrote about how to raise kids, which led to a discussion about whether he's a good person, which led to the usual heated argument about whether Bush is a good person. My mother is a total wingnut. It's Bill Clinton's fault her retirement account is a quarter of what it was three years ago. But it's all part of Heavenly Father's plan (that's her out in case she's wrong about Bush). And Bill O'Reilly is looking out for everyone.

I read O'Reily's rules (don't have them in front of me), but they all presupposed some truth. Next time, try this with your mother: Avoid refuting the "argument" and instead idenify the underlying supposition that she finds so attractive. Sticking with O'Reiley's list, those might be things like, we want kids to be safe; we want kids to be healthy; or we want kids to grow up with a fair chance.

Then, withthout pointing out how Bush or O'Riely are wrong (which will just turn her off), explain to your mom what the Dems would do to advance the underlying interest. Something like, "well, you know mom, when it comes to healthy kids, dems want to..." You can apply that technique to any topic. The key is to first identify the motivating assumption. "Well, you know mom, when it comes to homeland security, the dems want to..." "Well, you know mom, when it comes to fiscal responsibility, the dems want to..."

You get the idea. Try it and be patient. You have a year.

the repug agreed that the economy, foreign policy and just about everything else was a mess, but still waffled on voting for someone other than the whistleass

so I said "sounds like the real question is do you want to clean up the mess in 2004 or wait until 2008 when the mess will probably be even messier? There is no indication that 'bush' is able or willing to get things back on track, and alot of indications the the recent rhetoric from 'bush' is just alot of hot air for the campaign. Look at what he's really doing and not at what he says he's doing"

18. Here's a good sign

My family has always been strongly Republican. My GGGGrandfather was at the Jackson Convention, and was an early state leader of the GOP. Of my living family on my father's side, my grandmother is a former Republican official, my father (ex-career military) voted for Reagan twice, GHWB twice, Bob Dole and GWB. (My mother has been a closet Democrat for as long as I can remember.)

It looks like all of them are going to vote for whomever the Dems put up this time.

Let 9/11 happen and now try to cover it up.
$500 Billion deficits. Growth of Federal Agencies is the largest ever in history.
Failure to keep other countrues as allies.
Threatened to use nuclear weapons in first strike.
Attacking state's rights in federal courts.
Before finishing Afghanistan, attacked a defenseless Iraq.
Now wanting to rebuild Iraq to the tune of $87 Billion next year while at home: schools, health care, and cities go without.

Bumch of crazy Radicals in my book. Even the sheeple can recognize the wolf at the door if you point it out.

22. Rally 'round the flag

As disturbing as it is to say, I wouldn't be at all surpised if the bombs start dropping somewhere in the world between May and November of next year. With things going like they are in Iraq, how hard would it be for the adminstration to conjure up an "imminent threat" from say Syria? The kneejerk reaction of the American public (we oppose the war, until you actually start killing people, then we support it) could be enough to drive Bush safely into victory. That, and let's not forget who has their finger on the Terror Threat Level button.
