The Depths to Which the MSM has Sunk
Edited on Thu Jun-09-05 01:47 AM by LibDemAlways
This morning there was some commotion at the building in which my husband works, and the local ABC outlet in LA sent a camera crew and reporter. Hubby wanted to see if the story made the "news," so we flipped on the "Eyewitness" team at 5PM. This is something we haven't done in years, and I knew it was bad...but holy shit, it defied description. Mixed in with car chases and crime, came the tease, "How did Christ die? New information after this commercial break." New information about the death of Jesus? This I had to see.

When the broadcast resumed, a graphic depicting the crucifixion went up along with a list of medical terms like "thrombosis." The assholes were speculating on what would have done in a crucified man 2000 years ago and wasting time on it during a "news" program. It was surreal, like a truly tasteless SNL sketch that would probably have been rejected as just too bizarre.

If this is the kind of crap Americans are being subjected to during the "news" hour, we're in deeper shit than I could possibly have imagined.

1. Good lord.
They waste news time for a story like that? Well I hope they at least had some happy talk at the end of the news show. :sarcasm:

2. Read about that somewhere on the net today...
such speculation and he's suppose to be returning so soon now. Why not just wait and ask him personally. :sarcasm:

3. So then QUIT CALLING THEM THE "MSM!!"
There's NOTHING "mainstream" about the Corporate Media's twisted agenda of greed and manipulation.

<rant off>

NGU.

10. Is there another word besides corporate media to describe them?
That still sounds like a fairly benign term for what is really a massive propaganda system.

11. I kind of like "complicit media"
Because without their help * wouldn't be president or have his war. I also like the phrase "militarization of information" as public discourse has become a propaganda battle ground were the point is not to inform but out maneuver.

12. Instead of MSM, how about BSM?
Edited on Thu Jun-09-05 04:46 PM by hatrack
Either that or the Trivial Media - it's a nice slant rhyme with "Liberal Media".

5. There is nothing redeemable in the corporate media.
Let them go completely bankrupt and fade away into obscurity, for the sake of anyone.

7. When I moved to Los Angeles for a few years, the first headline
story I watched was about the anchor's nose job. I swear on my kids' heads.

15. I still keep it on MSNBC
most of the day.

Just like yesterday and today I was cursing under my breath. While I feel bad for the family of the girl who disappeared in Aruba I don't think it should be leading off on a nationwide news network.

They've got to be bored over there. The jury's deliberating in the MJ case. The dorks are posting the length of time the jury's been deliberating. It's really ludicrous.

Very little on Iraq, very little international news, I don't even recall them even mentioning the words 'downing street memo' at all. Although they did go on and on and on and on about Dean and the truth he told the other day. Couldn't let that one go I suppose.

BTW, the bears invading a woman's backyard in California was nice.

Our so-called media hard at work.

16. Gotta Love Those Local Newscasts...If It Bleed, It Leads
There's a guy named Joel Cheatwood...the godfather of local TV news and his thing is to load up these local newscasts with anything BUT news. The gorier, the more titilating, the more outrageous, the better.

So we get the endless car chases or the live shoot-out, the "team coverage" of a rainstorm, endless reports on how everything will kill you (in our "health segment"), non-stop subliminal advertisements for restaurants, co-owned newspapers/magazines, car dealers and lots of giggles and laughs. Much of the stuff is pre-packaged...i mean to the point where there are scripts included for the anchors to read...it's gotten that cheap and goofy.
