I'm curious to know why Colin Powell was on 'The Daily Show' last night.
He's not peddling anything.

Powell more or less spend the entire interview spewing propaganda regarding WMD's and "faulty intelligence", etc.

So, why did he even bother to appear?

2. That's another good question.
Why 'did' they have him on?

6. Gotta have some RWers on, or else they are the "evil liberal media".
So hey, would you have rather had Powell on, or Rice? At least Powell knows, somewhere in the back of his mind, that what they've done is wrong.

23. Well, that's a lose/lose scenario...
...because they will be considered "the evil liberal media" as long as they don't kowtow to everything conservatives want. The only way to get rid of that label is to become everything they ridicule.

17. Maybe Stewart is being pressured.
He has had plenty of right wing politicians on lately. Dole, Gingrich, and Powell are the most notable.

19. Yes, and why did chimpy and pickles have dinner at the Powell's
last week? Maybe they dine together frequently, but the last one was highly publicized, and seeing the first freaks on the Powell's front porch before going in for dinner was a first for me.

3. Maybe he was originally going
to be talking about Bolton, but *'s little "dinner" at his house and the dessert conversation make him change the agenda.

4. Damage control.
Bush had dinner at his house a couple of weeks ago.
There was either a threat or a promise made I would be willing to venture.
Whatever it was, was enough for Colin to come out of retirement and whore himself for Bush again.
You think he would have learned.
Colin Powell is, IMHO, a fallen hero. He fell to the dark side and it negated his entire career. He didn't protect our country when we needed it most--therefore he is a treasonous bastard.

Does it rhyme with 'mice' or does it rhyme with 'Richie'?

9. It's CYA Time For Powell
The same Downing Street Minutes that could potentially fuck over the Bush administration once and for all would sink Powell too, who had to have known that the intelligence was being formed around the policy and that he was knowingly assisting in a fraud against the American public and the entire world when he pretended that diplomacy could be entertained vis a vis Iraq.

13. So you think that Powell appeared on his own behalf....
..and not because the Bushies told him he had to go? Just asking.

14. I'm Saying The Bushies Might Have Asked/Ordered Him To Go
But Colin is in the same rowboat as the other neocons as far as the Downing Street Minutes are concerned.

11. because he is an important political figure
and the Daily Show is political satire. To get someone of his caliber on such a show is a coup. It fits. The real question is "why did Powell accept the invitation to appear?"

22. Well, the video link completed, it was only 9 minutes long....
...I expected a lot more, but I guess that was it. Powell remains a Bush apologist and republican first, so he can't be expected to stray off the party line. As for Jon Stewart, he had better make up for this softball lob. Otherwise, we just may see the administration top dogs marching across his stage using his show as yet another propaganda forum.

16. I think it had something to do with the Downing Street memo
The Bush/Blair press conference went over like a lead zeppelin, so they needed someone "objective" and "credible" to boldly go forth to a "liberal" bastion and recycle the talking points. I guess he figured Jon would be too "shocked and awed" to really challenge him, but he did bring up the Downing Street meeting minutes!

21. He is one of the most palatable Republicans
He was less likely to be dismissed. Sent out to spread the word after the roof blew off of the DSM suppression.

20. I think you answered your own question
Powell more or less spend the entire interview spewing propaganda regarding WMD's and "faulty intelligence", etc.

I think Olberman makes it fairly obvious that he has to kiss a lot of ass in order to have a little say. I don't suppose it's much different for Stewart.

26. Colin Powell
I wondered why they had him on. After about five minutes, I had to fast foward the lies were so obvious and Powell will always be an apologist for Bush. The only reason the Repugs go on The Daily Show is to spew their propaganda or scramble to spin their lies when they get caught.

Colin, Blair and President Mightymouse are insisting that the DSM is a non-issue because it was written prior to their going to the United Nations. Well, here are some statements from Powell and Rice made prior to the DSM!
