1. The key to winning is not to convince repugs or independents |

11. Say what you want about pro wrestling... |
|
..but the 'Smackdown your vote' campaign has been pretty successful. They've managed to get a number of younger (18-24) people registered to vote. Raising voter awareness in anyway is a good thing, IMO.

13. Just a wild guess, but |
|
I'd guess wrestling fans would tend to be more Republican. Part of that whole "hit 'em with a chair point of view."
However, my favorite wrasslin maneuver is when the one guy gets hurt so badly that they need a stretcher to carry him out, and then the bad guy knocks him off the stretcher and hits him with it. After 40 years of wrasslin, you'd think they would have learned to get the bad guy out of the way before they put the good guy on the stretcher, but maybe next time...

14. the hip-hop community and the world wrestling entertainment community |
|
are two sides of the same coin that that these communities are coming together to get 2 million 18-30 voters (redneck or ghetto, it does not matter) to cash in, in 2004
this is grassroots voting drive at its finest, using the entertainers (Jay-Z and 50 Cent, for example, whom Russ Simmons correctly points out are "leaders more so than politicians" to get these untapped young people not only to register to vote, but to make sure they exercise that option
Rep. Conyers showed up at this meeting at the National Press Club, presumably endorsing this
this is an important event and should and will be promoted
again, as Russ Simmons says, these two entertainment communities have a lot of money, and what they're doing is pooling it
this is good news, inspiring and optimistic
