In 1946, Pinto Colvig was hired by Alan Livingston of Capitol Records to be the voice of the lead character in the world's first read-along book -- "Bozo at the Circus." This book/record combination broke all records for children's records, and led to over a dozen sequels, as well as demand for personal appearances. Pinto Colvig, the former circus clown, soon created a live clown character to match the books and records. In 1949, this grew into a live action television television series for KTTV in Los Angeles, starring Pinto Colvig as the first televised Bozo the Clown.
