"Dem Wimin-Hater's Club." Is there one?
Edited on Thu Jun-09-05 06:42 PM by smartvoter
I had an interesting DU experience today:

I made an observation about Dems piling on Dean and that they tend to be presidential hopefuls, but that Pelosi was not.

A couple of DUers suggested that the reason I didn't list Pelosi as contender was she is a woman. One wrote "Dem Wimin-Hater's Club."

The reason I singled out Pelosi was (on edit: I thought) she was born in Canada -- it had nothing to do with gender.

But the response -- which was to immediately assume discrimination -- was interesting. I have long viewed the Dem party as the party of women's rights and equal opportunity. It was especially surprising given that Hillary is generally considered the front-runner for the party nomination.

While I'm certain that there are bigots of all types in the Dem party (as with any large population of people), I never viewed it as being home to a woman-hating club. In fact, I thought it just the opposite.

Am I all wet? Blind? Naive?

Any comments -- especially from the double-x persuasion -- would be read with interest.

ON EDIT: My bad. I have been informed that Pelosi was not born in Canada. Don't know how I made that connection -- have long thought it the case.

The thread is below. It's not much more than I shared. It's not really that I'm in hot water -- just thought it was interesting.

6. Didn't see that thread, but...
there's a lot of that sort of stuff you don't want to take seriously.

There are those whose mission is seek out and destroy bigotry and hatred even when it's not there.

19. And who, in the process of seeking out and destroying
bigotry and hatred, create even more bigotry and hatred ...

And thus the serpent eats his tail.

9. I hate that spelling too...it accomplishes nothing
I would not like Hillary to be president.

I do not like family dynasties in the presidency.

We should make an amendment to that effect that once someone is a president, relations within two generations cannot be president (ranging from 2nd cousins to grandchildren and in-laws etc).

I was very apolitical in the 1990s because everything was so swell...then bush ran for the presidency and I was opposed to him based on the notion of opposing family dynasties....then I learned more about politics after 911....and I hate him for far more reasons than just a family dynasty....he is a clinical sociopath not fit for anything but prison.

12. Dear Mr. Smartvoter - I just called Congresswoman Pelosi's
office. She was not born in Canada - she was born in Maryland. Also, she has been mentioned as V-P possibility - which is why your earlier post seemed dismissive.

15. Are you confusing her with Granholm?
Pelosi was not born in Canada.

So, the person in that thread who responded that way was probably trying to figure out why Pelosi would be excluded. And there has been a feminist backlash on DU of late because a Feminist DU group was recently formed, so things have been touchy. Besides, that response wasn't that bad.
