I just watched "Team America, World Police".... |
|
to my great dismay. It was suggested by my Nephew (27 years old, still living with Mom, paying no rent....) as a "must see". I can sum up the entire movie in one word. Shit. Apparently Stone and Parker have a hard on for anyone in Hollywood who gives a damn about this country going down the shitter. I notice he gave bush, cheney, o'lielly, hannity, limpballs etc. etc. etc. a free pass from their "rapier like wit" :eyes: I guess they are among the people who think that America's job is to nation build and be the world's policemen. "We're dicks, but the world needs dicks". :puke: Their sophomoric, juvenile, locker room attempts at humor were so porous and inane it was sickening to watch. I've seen a few episodes of "South Park" and it's the very same asinine bullshit. I can see why it appeals to my Nephew, he's totally separated from reality. If it wasn't for my Sister he'd starve to death. Seriously, he can't cook, do laundry, clean...but my Sister enables him. She has no idea what's going on in the world either. But anyone else that found humor in this POS needs a serious reality check. It's wasted money renting this turkey, pick something else off the rack. Anything.

and was surprised also. To top it off I spent 20 bucks on the thing. I made the mistake of believing it made fun of both sides.

2. I have to admit I liked it |

Deep down, I'm a 13-year-old boy . . .and yes, I went mainly for the puppet sex.
Still, I don't mind skewering self-important actors. And Matt Damon - who is portrayed as some sort of mono-syllabic idiot - said he liked the movie. The only one who bitched was Sean Penn....and he has repeatedly shown no sense of humor.
And I thought the Gung-Ho, Right-Wing Team America were made out to be the biggest idiots in the movie.
In conclusion...you can't go wrong with puppet sex.

28. pay more attention to their politics, next time you view them |
|
and then decide how you like em. I admire the bravery of their art and scripts. But it seems to me their attitude toward society and activism and liberalism is revoltingly cynical. Your generation gets inundated with that. They say you have no more heroes, and why the hell should you, given reality?
YOU must be our heroes! Parker/Stone could do so much with their opportunity, and they waste it on utter debased sarcasm. It's sad. True, they are vicious against the Right Wing too, sometimes, but basically their message is pretty much hate everybody and die, bitch. Boring Xer fatalism.Funny, but bitter & dark.
That's not what you Globals are about. I know you well. You are full of hope and practicality! Your idealism and resolve will save us! Don't get hypnotized by propoganda of any stripe, please.
Stay as sweet as you are, and
Welcome to DU!

6. its amazing that with such villains rich with comic possibility... |
|
Edited on Thu Jun-09-05 06:31 PM by thebigidea
... as Bush/Cheney/Rummy/etc, they chose to go after a few actors instead. Lazy, weak-kneed, and stuck somewhere in the mid-90s. They could've made some wonderfully sick little Bushie puppets.
I thought the first few seasons of South Park were fairly amusing, but those stupid screechy voices now make me want to snap. Failing that, I change the channel.
Its gone on too long, they've gotten far too comfy. A hideous caricature of themselves, ripe for some younger comics to tear apart the way they so smugly do to others.

9. Lol, you did not get the entire movie. Even the name seems to have |
|
escaped you. It was satire... They were making fun of those that thought America should Police the world. Sure, they made fun of both sides, who cares. I thought the movie was funny.
I love the opening when they go to Paris to stop the terrorist and they end up destroying most of Paris. They were oblivious that they did more harm then good.
I suggest watching it again....
Great movie.

I realize that "Team America" were a bunch of crazed, idiotic, nationalistic, morons, but why make it look like everyone in Hollywood are subversive, socialist idiots? I still maintain that this is "humor" in it's lowest form, and that these guys have outlived their experiment in comedy. Like I said, I can see how it would appeal to younger people who feel this is the epitome of comedy, but their tastes will change as they mature. I only wish Parker and Stone would mature as well. Being such idiots at their age is dangerous.

Some people in Hollywood are subversive socialist idiots. Why cares. They exaggerate... They exaaggerated about NK and the US. It was a comedy. They make fun of everyone. Guess some people are just sensative....

I'm a big fan of South Park and while I'll agree that it's not for everyone, humor is purely matter of individual taste.
As for "Team America" I haven't seen it. As much as I generally like their humor, I see enough of Americans blowing shit up on the news.

14. I had mixed feelings about it |
|
I really think that the producers were trying to go for a blanket lampoon of the ENTIRE "War on Terra" while at the same time trying to appear unbiased and objective. Unfortunately, their aim for objectivity went a little too far, and it might come off to some that the movie leans a bit to the right.
I must admit that there were some parts of the movie that had me in absolute hysterics (the puppet "love" scene, for one). But at the end of the movie, when you really think about it, Team America looks like the biggest, most vulgar group of idiots in the world. The only problem is that I don't think that most people that see this movie WILL really think about it, and therefore they might reach other conclusions.

Too bad their anti-Repuke humor goes over so many people's heads, but I guess they do that on purpose so the Repukes don't boycott them.

They were trying to portray the rightwing attitude, in which team america is great, and actors are whiny liberals that in deed are trying to destroy the world. Now, if they had made the movie with A-list actors, and a great script, I would have been pissed. But I think the point was to completely parody that mindset, hence the puppets (and all the other crap). They didn't make any comments about how we blow EVERYTHING up when we come to town (the Paris scene, the Cairo scene) and never even think twice about it. But they made sure to include that part. All in all, I think Matt and Trey are actually pretty smart, and hate right wingers as much as they hate stupid whiny liberals. They're relatively moderate (as are many people), and were simply making a joke.

25. Celib bashing was funny |
|
when they did it in South Park and the South Park movie. But jeepers talk about a 1 note johnny. I didn't find any of the celib stuff funny because the jokes seemed so old.
They set out to make a movie that made fun of overhype American action movies. And to add a little social commentary like they always did. But it end up not very funny. Perhaps because American overhyped action movies satires are as dull as the rest of the genre.

but what South Park I HAVe seen - I tend to react as you did.
It seems to suck in young people with the profanity and all - and how it seems anti-establishment and then it subtlety ends with a right-wing message - or throws out some disinformation or something.
I think it's propaganda.
