Question about moveon web servers? Count bounces backwards
Edited on Thu Jun-09-05 06:29 PM by libertypirate
It appears that our Moveon friends have more than one server running the signup form; which is good. It also looks as though that Moveon programmers have done a no-no and built independent counters on each machine.

If someone knows anyone over there this would be important to find out because there is a possibility that their count is off; big time.

I noticed this as I was refreshing the page that the counter would jump up and down. I engineer systems such as the ones moveon uses. I know that the programmers are for the most part blind to their lapses and glitches. I bring this up because if each machine has an independent count, we would have to add them together to get a real count...

Any thoughts?

1. Load-balancing
Perhaps they use round robin load-balancing, so you 'jump' from one server to another and they may only replicate every 15 minutes. So the numbers would be different until they replicate.

2. The numbers are changing
real time though but one is consistently lower than the other. I am just saying if they are using server based counters they might be showing the wrong number completely....

You should see the shit I see programers do, they are often lost in what they are doing.

4. Well, Moveon has been at this sort of thing for a while now...
I would think that they would have worked out any kinks by now and know that the count is (ultimately) correct. They've used this program enough times by now to judge whether it works or not. If it didn't I doubt they'd continue using it.

3. Maybe they are removing duplications

It could be cross-referenced to Conyers website also.

They also send a thank-you response and I would think that if it is refused because of a bad address, that it is removed from the count.
-----------

I am for impeachment with conviction.
