What's with Jon Stewart lately? |
|
Anybody impressed with his handling of Colin Powell? Has he mentioned the Downing Street minutes? Then he has this dolt talking about how smart popular culture will make you. I'm feeling like he's being pressured to be fair and balanced so to speak. Or maybe he's sipping some of that purple stuff. I'm discouraged.

It's like clockwork -- every time he has a Republican on the show, If he doesn't outright punch them in the face, someone undoubtedly starts to worry that he's switch to the dark side.

A sticky at the top of the forum explaining that Jon Stewart is a comedian doing comedy on a comedy channel.
The fact that his fake news, and comedic bits have more hard news in them and that his fake news show is more informative than an entire week of MSM coverage is not his fault.
He is simply putting out comedy and entertainment. He does it very well in my opinion. Blaming him for not being a hard nosed investigative reporter is placing the blame on the wrong person just isn't right. Its not fair to him to expect him to be something he isn't

STEWART: You're on CNN. The show that leads into me is puppets making crank phone calls.

|
It's really not good comedy, and they spin so hard (especially the big-name guys) that it's not informative either. If we want that shit we can watch something else.
It does lend legitimacy to TDS's political commentary, but it's not good viewing or anything.

|
Why bother having that war criminal on at all, to spin and tell his never-ending lies? And you have to be POLITE to him?
But I did dearly love how Jon showed Bush in 2000 and in 2005, saying the same dreary lines about global warming--"we still have to investigate it", or some such trash.

Stewert is the host of a late night comedy/talk show, he cant force Colin Powell to tell the truth.

29. I think you are totally imagining this. |
|
First off, it is a comedy show.
Secondly he asked Colin difficult questions, way more than anyone should expect from a comedy show interview. He basically asked Colin Powell to aknowledge how wrong this war is wrong. He cant force Colin to tell the truth, and it is a comedy show, so it simply isnt appropriate to get adversarial. If you expect that it is your expectations that are out of line.
As far as the guy pitching its book, the Daily Show is a late night comedy show on 4 times a week. They pull guests from various pools and one of them is authors. The author wasnt saying anything remotely partisan, it was a pretty standard author interview.
The Daily Show isnt a liberal show. Dont expect it to be. It has a liberal perspective, but it is a late night comedy and talk show.

34. The Daily Show has shifted |
|
I don't always watch the show, but It seems to me that after the election in Iraq, (for Dennis Miller it was 9/11 )there has been a lot less GOP bashing. (I know Bush still gets some, but he gets it from Leno too.) Add to the fact that his guests seem to frequently be republicans, even major players on the "war on terror" Powell, and Tom Rodge, I would say I don't like where he was heading. It might be a comedy show, but there was a time it was clearly directed to the left. I dont see it that way any more. If Im the only one who doesn't like that, thats cool.

36. Did you see when he had Clinton on? |
|
Yeah, Stewart totally slammed him. And Kerry, too, when he was on. Isn't he just a right-wing douchb--
Oh, that's right. He didn't. In fact, he gave Kerry a very polite and enthusiastic reception, and the Big Dawg an even gentler interview than he gave either Kerry or Powell. (And, for that matter, he gave Clinton the most time I've seen him give any single guest.)
I think it's due to power. Stewart realizes he doesn't have much real power. The more power someone has when they come on his show, the more respect he gives them, and while Clinton and Powell are both "former" power-players, they still have a tremendous amount of influence, and they're pretty much the most powerful people from each side that have been on the show, IIRC.
Plus, he's too polite to be a dick to someone's face unless they're begging for it and they're not on his show. (See: Crossfire)

(and i was thinking the same thing lately--i don't watch him as often as i did, but it seems like every time i turn him on he is giving air time to another repukie. and plugging their book so they can make even more money)
when he had newt on whenever the fuck it was i had to turn it off. let's review some history: contract with america???
i don't understand why he would give these crooks and liars any airtime at all--aren't they getting enough on all the other channels?
