FLASH: GOP leaders want to raise Social Security age. 75? 80?
Edited on Thu Jun-09-05 09:39 PM by Bluebear
Remember, seniors, those floors around the deep fryer are SLIPPERY. Caution is urged, especially for those using walkers.

=====
WASHINGTON - Key Senate Republicans privately reviewed suggestions Thursday for raising the Social Security retirement age while limiting future benefits for upper-wage earners, officials said, as they sought momentum for legislation atop President Bush's second-term domestic agenda.

At the same time, the prospects for swift Senate action on the controversial measure appeared to dim during the day, the result of internal GOP disagreement as well as implacable Democratic opposition to Bush's call for personal accounts under Social Security.

"I don't look for it until later on in the fall," said Sen. Trent Lott, R-Miss.

4. God, let it be so!
It's hard to believe the damage they've done. It will take a generation (or more) to repair it.

No more Social Security. That is the REAL goal of the GOP. I wonder how many people in the red states that are counting on Social Security voted for Bunnypants Bush?

7. I HOPE they DO propose that! We're talking self destruction here!
I suggest raisingg the damn cap again, as has been done many times in the past. I also disagree with penalizing the upper income workers. Do they need SS...probably not, but they paid into the damn system, and they deserve to get there $1,000 a month the same as everyone else.

I hope these idiots do promote raising the retirement age again! THAT will put them in a deep hole with the American people for many years to come!

the ridding of pensions by some. They want to end retirement. Better get on it, young people. Your future is at stake.

There is nothing more sorrowful for me than seeing a really old and infirm person working, especially at a demon spawn pest hole like Wal Mart.

14. Signs of the times.
I went into town for a doctor's appointment and to do a little necessary shopping to make the gas expenditure worthwhile. I wandered into a Borders and found some books and a CD I wanted. When I got to the register, the cashier was a sweet white haired old lady, at least 75 but I'm thinking older, in a powder blue suit with a lace edged blouse.

Well, all well and good, until we had to talk to each other. The poor dear was deaf and we ended up shouting to each other. She also had a hard time with the register, fumbling with the money and putting the books in a sack, no doubt arthritic. The kid on the register next to her ran three people through while she waited on me. Also, she had to stand, which is much harder for an elderly person with creaky bones.

So is this what we want? Will she drop dead of a heart attack in her tracks while working? Isn't this a job that a young person going through college could use? Really, we have to look after our old people better.
