People don't understand Jon Stewart.
People have created a false illusion in their head that Jon Stewart is a "Democrat" or "Liberal." People expect him to take a side. I don't think so. He is above all else a commedian and social critic. If it was a Democratic administration in the White House I would expect him to do his job and make fun of them. It is not only Democrats that listen to Stewart, but people from a broad spectrum listen to him. We have this mentality that Jon Stewart has to be loyal to us and that we own him. This is not so. Let Jon do his job.

2. I don't want Jon Stewart to be anything other than himself and he hasn't
seemed himself since the election.

I turn to the Daily Show for humor AND honestly, how could they mention the Bush Blair press conference and not bring up the memo!?!

Don't give me this crap about not "knowing" Jon Stewart, I have been one of his biggest fans for longer than a majority of the people on this board.

Something is off, something is wrong, and I am not going to pretend like all is well.

I love Jon and the Daily Show too much too keep it to myself.

10. Really?
Watch his show on MTV?

He's nobody's freaking monkey. If you hero-worship the guy and freak everytime he has a right winger on his show and he doesn't take out out a gun to blow their brains out, then yes, you've completely missed the point of his show and him.

He's a comedian; his show is a fake-news show. Dirtect your bile elsewhere, like the ones who got us into Iraq in the first place.

16. Truer words have never been spoken.
If Dems were in office pulling this shit, Jon would be all over it, and people here would call him a right wing shill. Way to miss the freakin' point.

I just think it's a sad state of affairs when the media sucks so badly in this country that people are expecting a comedian on a fake news show to give hard hitting interviews. Yes, Jon is probably a liberal, yes TDS reports on the follies of the BFEE and gives them a good reaming, but Jon's job is not to be a pundit, nor is it to be a journalist. Jon has exactly one job:

TO BE FUNNY.

Jon has said himself in numerous interviews that the minute he starts thinking otherwise, he will cease to be funny. I agree with him.

Put the razor blades down and put the Xanax back in the medicine cabinet, already...

17. Then you obviously haven't relied on TDS for your news
I know that sound absurd, to rely on a fake show for news, but 30 minutes of the Daily Show used to have more truth in it that an entire week of all the news media combined.

They seem to have quit "fake" reporting on the things that matter, in the last 5 years that has not been the case.

I have been watching since Jon took over, his sole voice of honesty after 2000, after 9/11, before and during the war, is too valuable to lose. You obviously had other outlets of truth, but I didn't, before DU, I depended on Jon. I have often thanked god for him and the Daily Show.

Jon didn't ask to be my version of Walter Kronkite, but that kinda happens when you are the only person telling the truth out of 200 channels and thousand of shows (quick kick to Keith Olberman for being a real news man, but I only started watching his show last year).

Jon has a lot of weight on his shoulders, maybe he's tired, maybe they are trying to pull in RWers just to pounce on them with the truth (news networks are hemorraging viewers maybe they want a piece of it, if that's the case I'll wait and cheer when they get back to business) maybe they threatened him, maybe he is sick of people like me expecting too much from him, I don't know. But I want to know what is going on things are changing over at the Daily Show for the worst, and I want to know why. If it's temporary, hell yeah, thats cool, if it's permanant I am going to scream about it cause I have been spoiled by all of the lavish meals of truth that they feed me every night.

This is not a slam on Jon, this is me raising my voice cause things don't feel right, take it as you will, flame away.

18. Don't watch TDS for news...
Repeat; don't watch TDS for news. It's a comedy show. Jon Stewart has said this more times than I can count; if he doesn't think it's a news show, why should anyone else?

4. Your comment is great and I agree.
But I know Jon Stewart is a Dem and has an opportunity to prove it. He's done it time and again, just give him time.
Bedtime now!

8. Man, he was railing on Colin Powell last night.
Really, if you have it on tape/Tivo, go watch the interview. He asked some insanely tough questions.

7. He Exposes More Lies in His Quiet Interviews
Yes, I think we'd all would've loved it he'd rolled the Powell with 'anthrax' at the UN footage and asked what the hell was he thinking, but that's not really his style. He makes them look worse with his gentlemanly interviews, where they dig their own pits.

11. I don't think that Jon is my monkey, Jon is no ones monkey
maybe it's the staff, maybe it's the network, but they HAVE been all fluff and RWers lately and it is freaking me out.

Maybe they are tired, maybe they they are trying to lure in the RW viewers only to turn on them later, man I certainly hope that's it.

Something is off and I think that we should write Jon and tell him that we got his back.

If something happeded to Jon millions would be in the streets demanding answers.

It is just confusing and scary.

12. It's not his job to grill guests either and I doubt if
he's the person who books them. It wouldn't have been cool for him to ask Colin Powell hard questions anymore than Dave Letterman or Jay Leno. He's not Meet the Press, or the other news shows that should be doing this.

14. "He is above all else a comedian and social critic"
He is above all Intelligent.... so like most here he knows that the people currently inhabiting the White House are the worst group of thugs to get their hands on the reigns of power in American history.

He may not be a Democrat be he sure as fuck is not a Republican.

That said I get your point. He is not out to save the Nation he is an entertainer and a damn good one.

:toast:

15. Stewart firmly stands where no one else dares to go
He shows Bush's lies through humor and does it in a way where the right wing hatemongers leave him alone. In fact, they all try to get on his show. Let him be nice to Powell, Bill O'Reilly, Ralph Reed and all the other Christian white men. He never stops making his point, which is usually always right on, and they won't try to discredit or stop him.

20. He's expert at deflating blowhards of all stripes
I see it as him skewering absurdity at every opportunity no matter the source. He's gotten very good at it and i have enjoyed the show very much since its launch
