Former CIA director calls for Iraq withdrawal
Edited on Fri Jun-10-05 06:48 AM by Frederik
I'll be damned.

"Former CIA Director John M. Deutch, institute professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), said that the United States is not making progress toward key objectives in Iraq and called for American troops to pull out "as soon as possible" during a speech Tuesday (June 7) at Harvard's Sanders Theatre."

"In his 20-minute speech, he challenged the views of both Republicans and Democrats who say that the United States must stay the course to stabilize the country before disengaging.

That position, Deutch said, is based on the assumption that the United States will leave a stable nation behind. But it is also possible, he said, that the United States will fail in its Iraq objectives and lose international credibility by staying the course, even as its ability to deal with other crises, such as North Korea, Iran, and the fight against international terrorism, is compromised."

Here's to you, Mr Deutsch, for stating the obvious:

1. He's right.
I'm sure they won't listen to him, but he's right.

3. What's ironic
is that Deutch used to be criticized for being too pro-Israeli when he was Clinton's CIA chief and, as we all know, it was the Israel-aligned neocons and Likudniks who got us in this mess to begin with, not that Cheney and the Chimp needed any encouragement, what with all that oil deposited delectably close to the surface of Iraq.

4. Amen...
too many of our young men and women, Iraqi civilians and Journalists have died in bush's illegal oil grab already. Who wants to be the last to die for bush's lie?
Leave NOW and it will all settle out in the end. It certainly won't be what the White House wanted, but those goals were totally unrealistic to begin with.

LEAVE IRAQ NOW! :patriot:

5. I'm glad that people are finally speaking out...
For a while, it felt like there were no voices in the wilderness. Now, people are beginning to speak the truth.

I couldn't believe it last night when I heard Charles Rangel talking basically outlining the PNAC plan and calling those sick weasels on the carpet by name.

With Bush's approval ratings tanking--people feel more comfortable speaking the truth.

When Bush declared that he had "political capital" and puffed out his chest to declare himself the most popular world figure ever to grace the planet--I think it really intimidated and silenced many. Now, it's as if America is taking a closer look at that "capital", and what do they see...Chuck E Cheese coins. He never had any capital, and now he's being unmasked as a charlatan.

Like a snowball that starts off small--but gathers strength and size when it rolls down a hill----I get the feeling that the number of truthful voices will expand--until Bush faces consequences for his evil, traitorous, lying, scummy ways.

9. It would be so cool,...
,...if all the former military, diplomats and intelligence who oppose this insane neoCON foreign policy would coordinate a decisive effort to get out and about to as many forums as possible and spread their message.

Even better, have the whole bunch of them appear before congress.
