Skinner's McDonald's Unveils A Skinnier Ronald
------------------------

-----------------------
No more clowning around: A more robust Ronald for McDonald's (nyse: MCD - news - people ): Out go the voluminous pantaloons; in come basketball and soccer outfits and a snug warm-up suit. The fast-food company's new ad depicts a leaner, meaner merry-andrew who rides a bike, snowboards and shoots hoops with NBA superstar Yao Ming, all in a bid to get kids active. McDonald's is also pushing its healthy-eating message: Ronald juggles vegetables and evades strawberries as he snowboards down yogurt pistes. The restaurant chain has recently weathered complaints about the nutritional value of its fast food, culminating in Morgan Spurlock's Supersize Me documentary last year. Salad and fruit are now featured on the menu, and the company has launched a campaign to educate its customers about the benefits of an active lifestyle. Not everybody is convinced by the new, energetic Ronald--Al Ries, a marketing strategist in Roswell, Ga., said that focusing on the clown was a mistake. "Put the focus on the food, put the focus on the restaurants," she was quoted as saying in The Associated Press. Yet there's more to come: In the United States, the indefatigable Ronald will hit the road later this year for "Go Active with Ronald McDonald" interactive community shows. "This is just another way we're communicating with our customers on the importance of energy balance," said company spokeswoman Lisa Howard. McDonald's, headed by Chief Executive James A. Skinner, said the new commercial will be shown first in the U.S., then air in several other countries. More... http://www.forbes.com/facesinthenews/2005/06/10/0610autofacescan02.html?partner=rss

1. Heroin addiction - for a thinner you.
No matter how they dress it up (or down) - it's still crap. Do we get to see the new nutritional stats on the new foods? Does anyone think they're going to tone down the sugar content?

2. You hit it right on the nose...
When McDonald's put out their salads, the nutritional info was right there on the packaging, but NOT on the junk food. People are always saying "Come on, I know it's bad for me, but occasionally it's okay"...they might change their minds if they actually could see the nutritional information.

I've heard many people crabbing that McDonald's is not at fault for fattening up America & shouldn't be sued. If they LABEL ALL THEIR "FOOD", then I agree, if they don't label it, then I feel they should be able to be sued. (And this is coming from someone who has been a junk fooder for most of my life...I finally stopped the madness a little over a year ago, and am feeling healthier than I've felt in years...).
