I have a Question: Where in Iraq are they building the new embassy???
I don't think I have read anything about the location...is it a secret?? Has it been started yet?? and if it has it seems to me that the insurgents would target it in its bombings.

1. Isn't it a former palace in the "Green Zone"?
I'm sure it's in the Thunderdome area somewhere.

2. I think Rumsfeld answered that...
"To the north of Baghdad, to the south of Baghdad, and there's some in the east, and also to the west of Baghdad!"

3. Probably In The Green Zone, It Is Supposed To Be The Safest Place???
I hope the embassy building is modular so it can be taken with us when we are thrown out

5. in the green zone

the palace is temp.

this is to be the largest embassy in the world - with 3000 employees

the amount of money already spent on it and the amount recently ordered for it are so enormous the amounts wouldn't stick in my mind.

7. Do you think they'll paint a target on the roof?
1.5 billion for the locals to take pot shots at makes no sense at all. But what the hell, dubya thinks things are progressing just fine in his country of invasion by choice.

8. It's not a secret, and it's not really an embassy, either.
It's more of a fortified military base-prison-government office-tyrants' palace. You know, the sort of towering edifice to power that dominates a city and provides an unbreachable wall where all the dirty work is done. The type of thing Saddam built.

It will be in the Green Zone. Where Saddam built.

It will be a place that is not under any particular law, since an "embassy" is US soil but under the direct control of the President. Sort of the same way Saddam would run it. A Gitmo right there in Bagdad.

The supposed civilian ambassador with be there as cover, but the military will run things based on WH pressure.
