Given The State Of The Media, Where Would We Be Without The Internet ??? |
|
Can you imagine???
I mean... we'd have a few whistle-blowers screaming to a few fringe-like publications, but...
We'd be so in the dark, that I believe it would be much much worse.
Thank goodness for the Internet, for DU, all the other progressive sites, and for all of you guys.
We actually are saving the Union IMHO!!!

3. Don't you think for a millisecond that... |
|
Edited on Fri Jun-10-05 01:53 PM by Triana
...the US Gov't isn't studying CHINA profusely to determine how they can censor and control the internet here just like they do there. The Chinese Gov't has hundreds of thousands of internet 'monitors' over there to censor and prevent/deny access to ANYTHING the Chinese gov't does not want their citizens to see - the same type stranglehold the US gov't here has on the rest of the media here.
The US government owns and controls the media here. The internet is next. China is their example and they are over there studying how it's done so they can implement it here. MARK MY WORDS.
Better enjoy the democracy and freedom of the internet while you can - because it won't be around long.

9. Oh... I Agree !!! - That's Why This Moment In History Is So Critical !!! |
|
The idiots currently in charge, are lucky if they can open their own e-mail, let alone care to know anything about computer science beyond how to embellish a resume.
They don't know how it all works, and before us, didn't want to know. They hire people for that sort of thing, dontcha know?
Now however, they are certainly hiring people these days trying to figure out how to get control over the one thing they do not control... yet.
Be vigilant... and have a phone tree of like minded folks, so if we have to meet in person, we can.

The internets is really becoming the last baston of the free press.
I doubt very seriously that way back right after Nixon resigned that the planners of this RW coup of the media and government counted on the power of the internet and that it could spell the demise of their "domination of the government for decades" plans in relatively short order.
At least I'm hoping their demise is on the horizon.

If people had not had the Internet as a convenient alternative if they might not have taken better care of their MSM.
The Internet has, for all it's powerful information, been a great way of dividing people up, and giving each a little anonymous place to scream into the void.
As a consequence, maybe we've been a lot less cohesive in protecting the MSM and seen it as less necessary because of the huge variety of alternative sources.
The problem being, that most people still get their information (right or wrong) from the MSM.

16. A terminology request. |
|
MSM is NOT mainstream. The correct terminology to use for US media is Corporate Owned News, aka CON.
When talking about Pat Robertson, Jim Dobson, Jerry Falwell and their ilk, use the term radical cleric.
The United States does not have a Department of Defense. It is the Department of War.
Welcome to DU. :hi:

12. Imagine if this nation had even a half honest media. BushInc would NEVER |

have taken office in the first place, and the Repubs who worked to impeach Clinton while ignoring global terrorism would be in jail for their attempted coup and treason.

13. think Germany during WWII |
|
I recently read a very good book called "Hornet's Flight". One of the subplots was how the publishers of an underground newspaper in Denmark transported copies in hollowed-out aircraft wheel chocks.
We'd be faced with having to do the same kinds of smuggling.

The Internet has given the right too much access to information. The Internet and the demise of the fairness doctrine has not been good for us.

we would have Bush as President for a 2nd term voting machines that discount votes embroiled in an illigal war Social Security would be threatened big time have giant deficits bigger than the eye can see a media that sing praise to Bush whenever possible Democratic senators that tend to cave into the Senate majority's demands
Ooooh! Wait!
Shit....I think we've got some work in front of us.....
Of course Iam overjoyed for the existence of the internet.....but truth be told.....we must get stronger!

The Brownshirts are so PC unsavy...
The Internet will be the third thing they shut down...
Right after TV and Radio...
As soon as they can hire a tech to figure out how to do it.

23. In a gulag. The internets is the one thing that the NeoCons cannot |
|
control. It is driving them bonkers. I recently read Rupert's address to the National Press. He gets it, and he doesn't. He is looking for ways to take it over by making use of blogs. He sees his empire crumbling at the edges, and cannot figure out why.
