http://www.mydd.com/story/2005/6/10/15148/0504I'd like to take this opportunity, as
an independent voter (who is also intimately
familiar with the GOP, for both what its
good for and what its bad for - ) to
give a brief ecology of the different forms
of paid posters to various blogs.
This class of user is paid, per post, and
generally by the reply - at the rate
of approximately 10 cents per post.
Their purpose is to either drop the signal-to-noise ratio below acceptably usable
levels in a blog, or to create threads
that divert the focus of end users
so that they can't concentrate on issues,
that the paid-off "fake" user, is paid to
maintain. Note well: these paid off fake
users are notified, generally by email
or by an emminently breakable, 56 bit key
encryption SSL page where they login.
they are, at their best, trusted employees -
paid, in the case of the GOP, a minimum
wage plus bonus (see above). In the case of
the democratic party there is just simply
an abundance of idiots that do whatever they
think will save the world.. the GOP knows
better
Bashers - Their focus? Destroy the thread
at all costs, engage bloggers in constant,
vituperative, distractive battles.
Pumpers - This form of troll enjoys creating
fake interest in a topic, such as , say,
"hillary's run in 2008" and then ruining
the thread at a later date. Pumpers always have
a reason for whatever thread item they seek
to promote, but it is always to destroy that
item. See also the stock market technique
"pump and dump"
Shills - People who are paid to post directly by
those that would benefit by their paid opinion.
For example, the Bush administration is known
to pay off "experts" to give "objective" opinions
about certain elements of their policy in
news-media-entertainment shows. Also, people who
cannot criticize various key elements of
the debate by which their paycheck is cut.
Any paid connection, not intending to destroy,
but rather to artificially echo some kind of
pravda line.
Leeches - People who read the messages, as if they
can glean some kind of secret party intelligence,
and relay them to their higher up. Rarely post.
Trolls - People who post with the intent of eliciting a posted reply, which would embarass
or discourage the prospect of future dialogue.
Bashers and Pumpers are the two most common forms.
Also, people who post for commercial benefit,
ex. "I found this great new service.. click here"
NCDems - Poor, helpless, and defenseless deep south democrats who haven't a clue about the
turnerbroadcasting secret to big sky victory
in the south. Tend to pay too much attention
to the established elite. Often seen at
John Edwards pastry parties sulking in the
corner wishing they'd win an election or two..

I hope that clears up some questions around here.
This shreds.
