Exactly how do the prisoners at Gitmo fit into 9/11 ??
They did not attack us specifically, as far as we know. But most of them were part of the Taliban or frindly to the Taliban when we went into Afghanistan. So they were captured as enemies in a "war". But it was a "war on terror" and not a "real" war so the rules of the Geneva Convention did not relate to their condition or imprisonment, so we were told.

But, since we have an "elected" government now in Afghanistan, why can't these "prisoners" be legally tried by their own government? Why shouldn't they be transported back to Afghanistan for trial? And the cells of Guantanamo emptied?

2. All good questions...
... (some of which were asked by Hamid Karzai on his last visit here), and which Bush has rather simplistically answered by saying if we let them go, they'll just go back to fighting us.

I give some credence to the recent stories that many of the people incarcerated at Guantanamo and elsewhere are victims of the US offering bounties to warlords for "Taliban fighters" and were simply snatched in exchange for cash.

I also give some credence to Naomi Klein's suggestion that the indefinite detentions and the torture are meant to intimidate those not in captivity, to suggest to them that we are brutal and are indifferent to the "niceties" of both our own law and that of international making.

Having stepped over a line which should not have been crossed, the US has simply kept on going, farther and farther, and now they have to lie, repeatedly, about doing so. *sigh*

3. They don't...have not found one single person...but they do fit
...the administrations terrorist profile and so having these potential terrorists locked away gives republicans a comfort level and peace of mind that the U.S. Constitution which is just a piece of parchment has never been able to provide to these re-puke mother-f**kers!

You can piss on the Koran, you can take a dump on the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights, but remember that the Patriot Act is now the law of the land.

4. They are scapegoats
I read somewhere that some American citizen thought that they should stay there because of their faith-because it was Islam that brought down the towers. By that reasoning, Christians should be incarcerated for the bombing of the Murrow Building in OK City.

But mopaul is right-too many people in this country know nothing of Islam. Wonder if they'd be shocked to find that "Allah" is merely the Arabic word for God, the same God worshipped by Christians and Jews?

that's without evidence, trial, accusations or even lawyers.

8. Literally, our "brave" soldiers pick on the mentally handicapped.
In the news report about the taxi driver they tortured to death, the soldiers at Bagram (sp?) airbase had also trained a mentally handicapped prisoner to act like a mentally handicapped character from South Park.

What is wrong with these young (mostly) men? It's really not fair to say just men, because I think they were being led by a Captain Carolyn Wood.

What's next for these mouth breathing thugs? Kicking the crutches from out from under the crippled? Vandalizing wheel chairs? Mocking the deformed?

7. no figuring the mind of a 'Wet Brain Alcoholic Drug Addict Moron'
The war was started just before an election ..so it would be, and still is... unpatriotic to disagree with a 'War President'..even if he was 'AWOL' from the last War.
