Oops. The GOP really is all white, study proves it
http://americablog.blogspot.com/2005/06/oops-gop-really-is-all-white-study.html

Seems that big tent looks more like a big white hood.

And, why does Howard Dean insist on telling the truth?

One Percent of Republican Legislators in the States And Washington are African-American or Hispanic

1. What's the percentage of white Dems, just to provide a
control and show exactly how egregious the repubs are?

7. I Concur
I would also like to know what the percentage of Democratic representatives are WASPs, as well.

So far, I have not seen any reports of this.

It is important to always try and see both sides of any argument, not to agree with both sides in some namby-pamby way, but rather, if one has a good idea what the other side is going to say, it puts one in a much better position to argue against it effectively.

In this situation, the first thing I would say if I was trying to defend the RepubliKKKans is "Well, so what if we have a lot of white guys? So do the Democrats!"

If we could counter with: "Yes, but 99.8% of Republicans burn easily in the sun, while XXX% of the Democrats need a much lower SPF level."

I would LOVE to fill in that percent.

14. You are completely right. We have to show that we are not afraid
of the truth about us. We have to be able to demonstrate that we can engage in honest self-criticism and survive the better for it, and certainly better than the other brand.

2. I don't necessarily think that ...

..all republicans are racist, but it sure looks like the leadership is. And those who aren't find reason to support the status quo.

It always amazes me that there is a perception by some people that after the civil rights movement, "those problems were solved," and racism had been magically cured by the passage of some laws.

Think about all the people who fought and supported the opposition to that movement, they have grandchildren now. Many of them perpetuated those beliefs in their family. Not all, but certainly some.

3. Stop telling lies about us and we'll stop telling truth about you.

"... a new book about America's political divisions notes that the 99 percent of all Republican legislators across the country and in Congress are white. The national Republican Party, whose base is in the South, the Plains and the Mountain states, looks to white men as its power base and source of leadership. Even when Republican states have significant minority populations, the elected Republican representatives rarely are drawn from those communities.

The Great Divide: Retro vs. Metro America, a new look at political divisions in America by educator-entrepreneur Dr. John Sperling, calls those states 'Retro America,' and notes: 'Its whiteness and maleness are mirrored in the Republican Party.'"

4. Dems simply MUST stop being so cowed!
In the language of Paolo Freire, Dems have internalized the oppressor. Unfortunately differentiating between those who have identified with the oppressor and those who are actually constructing "a third term" will not be possible until after we've learned not to over-react to GOP whining about truth-saying too much.

Going forward with the truth inspite of their griping and threats will, in the short term, result in gridlock, but, eventually, if there are any real statesmen left on either side, real statesmen will credit Reality and try to construct a "third term" that solves. Ergo, We must not back down from vocal public pressure to recognize REALITY, because it will force the phonies' hands, and, ultimately, we'll be able to better recognize those with whom we might attempt good faith efforts.

Dems MUST figure this out or give up and go away, so something else can try.

Someone called the minorities at conventions as being like a "bag of Hershey's kisses airdropped on the vast whiteness of the Antarctic continent."
