Clark Never Called Karl
The interesting thing is everybody (on the right and the far left) assume Clark is the one lying. What should we believe Bill Owens and Mark Holtzman?

Clark Never Called Karl
Wesley Clark says he would have been a Republican if Karl Rove had returned his phone calls. White House phone logs suggest otherwise.

Matthew Continetti, editorial assistant

WHEN WILL Wesley Clark stop telling tall tales? In the current issue of Newsweek, Howard Fineman reports Clark told Colorado Gov. Bill Owens and University of Denver president Mark Holtzman that "I would have been a Republican if Karl Rove had returned my phone calls."

Unfortunately for Clark, the White House has logged every incoming phone call since the beginning of the Bush administration in January 2001. At the request of THE DAILY STANDARD, White House staffers went through the logs to check whether Clark had ever called White House political adviser Karl Rove. The general hadn't. What's more, Rove says he doesn't remember ever talking to Clark, either.

1. Read the Spinsanity on this
This is getting silly.
Create lies about Democrats being "liars" and you can get away with murder, but if you point out Bush's many true lies you are unpatriotic or "Hate" Bush.

3. it all makes sense now !
Clark couldn't get Rove to return calls because he was calling the WRONG number !!! He was calling Carl Rove the Metro train driver who could not figure out who that 'Wesley Clark guy' who kept calling him was and why he was calling him looking for a job !

Or was that Carl Rove the Zamboni driver for the Canadians hocky club in Montreal who doesn't understand English and just deleted the messages on his answering machine.

Or was it just another provocative quote intended to "sex up" an interview.

Hum.............

5. Weeklystandard, Bush WH, and Karl Rove are truth tellers?
Edited on Mon Sep-22-03 02:50 PM by papau
Get real

If a Dem is being called a liar by the above, I suggest the National Media report that the Dem told the truth - at least until such time as credible evidense is presented that the Dem did not.

Amazing how those WH logs seems to not show the bin Laden family visits that they once did show (and I would like to hear about the cell phone logs!)! And the 495 DC beltway liars club has their daily Norquist breakfast at the Weekly Standard.

7. They have the same take I did
Clark said it was a humorous tweak......he said it was a joke. He was messing with the two Republicans. What don't they get about this statement.

9. I agree Nancy!
I believe that he was tweaking Rove's nose. If Rove had Clark as a candidate, he'd be coasting for the next 2 presidential terms. I think he's messing with Rove's mind to knock him off his pins a little. I love it.

12. Dem's can not joke - unless rthe NYTimes says it was a joke, it is a lie
I believe Berk (?) started that rule calling Gore a liar because Berke and near by friends did not catch the this is joke intro to the Gore comment whenwith Gore said his mother sang the "union label song" to him.

Meanwhile back at truth telling Bush head quarters, the NY Times and the Washington Post are explaining why they only have one story saying a Dem is a liar in their paper today - and the ABCNote is pissed because the rest of the media has not joinned in the Dem is a liar theme like they did with Gore.

Can't our media friends stay on the same page with the Whitehouse! I mean the NYT and Was Post do a good job - and the Globe tried to tear Kerry up, and Dean is now getting "the treatment" -

nothing person with Dean or Clark or Kerry - it is just part of the way the not controlled by the right wing media works in the US - they must build up the GOP'er - if necessary by lying or suppressing stories, and they must tear down the Dem - again by lying or spinning or suppressing stories.

The ABCNote even says you have to expect this treatment - and complains about why it has not "started" - they mean at a higher volume - yet.

13. am i reading this correctly?
Wesley Clark says he would have been a Republican if Karl Rove had returned his phone calls. White House phone logs suggest otherwise.

is this right? the Clarkies are admitting that Clark called the white house, but defending him by saying that the white house is lying about getting the calls? huh??? is it a GOOD thing that Clark admits he "would have been a repub"? it seems to me that this is BAD for Clark, whether or not the white house is lying.

either Clark is lying, or this is more evidence that he's a "Democrat of expediency" only.

16. I thought everyone knew about Rove?
Bush's Brain ought to be required reading for Dems. For a non fiction book, it's a real page turner, besides.
