The Brits appear to be a bit pissed about Our Dear Leader's visit.
I live about 8 miles from Prestwick Airport, which incidently is nowhere near where the G8 summit is being held.

Apparently if I'm going to Troon or Prestwick, where I have to pass by the Airport, I may be stopped by Strathclyde Police backed up by US Marines.

Despite the fact that the UK has been dealing with HIGH level terrorism since 1969, The White House, feels that Strathclyde Police, Special Branch Counter Terrorism Unit, Diplomatic Protection, MI5, and our own Military, are not up to the task of protecting your President. I would understand if he wanted to bring some Secret Service agents, after all Special Branch follow Tony Blair about, but 2000 Marines, in my home County of Ayrshire, British Soveriegn Territory, on the streets..It's wrong.

With all due respect to my American friends here, but I'll be dammned if a foreign Marine is going to search my car. I'll let Strathclyde Police do their job, if I am stopped, but there is no way on God's green Earth, that a US Marine will EVER search my car, in my own Country.

5. We had this before as well
When he popped over for the State Visit a couple of years ago. The Secret Service were irritated that they would not be granted immunity from prosecution over their use of fire-arms (why the hell foreign security were ever permitted to carry weapons over here I'll never know).

The Metropolitan Police have looked after Royal and Diplomatic security since half way through the 19th century, during which time they have not lost a single person in their protection. This includes when we were faced with a long terrorist onslaught for over 20 years; this includes when we were THE superpower hated by everybody else; and I'm willing to bet that the Prime Minister (much as I dispise everything he stands for) and the Queen are not exactly off al Qa'eda's hit list either.

If king george cannot accept our security arrangements, then he should stay in the White House a wet-himself.

6. the man is such a,

coward!

i wonder if he is even afraid that any in his own military might turn against him? the possibility always remains!
o, God! i don't mean any harm to anyone, but it would be so wonderful if someone could throw him in the darkest dungeon, along with any others who might stand in line to the ascendancy of the presidency, should any one throw the coward in the dungeon.

24. that event is still causing a lot of talk
Not so much the "don't go on your balconies" part, as the behavior of the Secret Service. The guys started apprehending journalists and confiscating tapes. Of course they were a few thousand miles out of their jurisdiction, but it didn't stop them.

12. That's just nuts!
How would we like it if, when Tony Blair visits the U.S., British soldiers stopped and searched Americans, on our own streets? How is this any difference? What amazing arrogance! No wonder the whole world hates him. But at least this guy can look forward to Bush's departure -- we, unfortunately, are stuck with the A-hole.

15. Well, it's more of Fuckwit's campaign to piss off all our allies
and isolate us from the rest of the world, all the better to lose the next big war.

We are going to lose it, you know.

Fuckwit thinks he's gonna git Raptured. All I see in his future is disgrace. We'll see which one of us is right.

17. Offended? Hell.. Outraged
If I was British I would be absolutely disgusted. At best this is an insult to the British people. You have every right to be outraged. If the same thing was to happen in my own country (Canada) I would protest and DEMAND the Parliament be held accountable.

16. What a coward he is.
If he's worried about terra-ists, Blair should be a target as much as he is, yet Blair doesn't demand that we taxpayers provide such elaborate "protection" when he visits the U.S.

No, the coward just knows he's hated, but his pride won't ever allow him to admit it. His paranoia speaks volumes, though.

18. Speaking of that G8: what countries got the break?
I can find only a partial list of African countries.

Moreover, how do they adjudge "good governance" as the litmus test for debt forgiveness?

Curious minds want to know.
