Do Repubs really want to win next election ?

From their actions, one might think otherwise. Bush and the Repubs run up unfathomable deficits. Then they say they would like to do away with overtime pay. Does this sound like someone that wants to win?

Because if they win, they destroy themselves. They must lose in order to remain viable as a political Party. Once they lose, they can always stand back and do their Monday morning quarterbacking about how it should have been done. However, if left to their own devices, they will have no excuse and it will be obvious to the world what a facade the Republican Party perpetrates upon naive believers. They will cannabalize their own in the process.

So they have no choice but to lose. If they win, they die. Because they are only good at creating problems for government, not resolving them. The huge deficits will become unbearable. Their foreign policy will isolate us before the world. Their domestic policies will desert every American that needs the help of government, because they do not believe in government. It would be like a leopard trying to change its spots for the Repubs to believe in any type of government solution.

So they have reached a point where they are hinting to their supporters, "Please do not vote for us...it will kill us as a Party. We need to have Democrats in power so we can criticize and vilify the way they govern, but we don't know what the hell we are doing." So they must convince their loyal right-wing followers that they are indeed incompetent. In doing so, someone will have to be the major scapegoat of the the Party. Goodbye George!

in the election. The 20% or so non-political voters don't care as much about such *arcane* issues, as whether or not they LIKE bush. If they LIKE him more than the Dem, then he gets back in. Don't believe it? How else did Ronnie win 49 states in 1984???

7. They don't need to win to stay in office

It's not who casts the votes, but who counts the votes, and Bush's pals at Diebold will be counting the votes.

There is also the possibility of a "coincidentally" well-timed terrorist attack shortly before election day giving Bush the "moral authority" to postpone (indefinitely) the elections. There goes democracy as Democrats everywhere rush to the Canadian border to escape the purges before the borders are closed. Those unfortunate Dems caught inside Bush's iron curtain will be forced to wear identifying arm bands and ... well you know the rest of the story.

I'm sorry, but Bush and the GOP will do anything and everything to stay in power. If they lose grip on power in any branch of government, the investigations and indictments will start flowing and they will be truly fried.

The only way they can keep the truth of their corrupt behavior hidden is to stay in power, by whatever means necessary.

And these friends in high places have more power than those in the Bush Administration...and have for many, many decades. It will be their decision to either keep or throw away the present Repub leadership. I think Bush is gone...

Are you referring to the Supreme Court? If the Bushies lose power, their hold on the Supreme Court (5-4) becomes very very shaky. They can't rely on that. Rehnquist won't live forever.

If the huge apparatus of the Executive Branch (esp. the Justice Department) is no longer in the hands of the Bushies, their goose is cooked. The Supreme Court can't save them, even as it is currently constituted.

If the GOP truly thinks Bush would lose the election, or that they had a better candidate (which they don't), they would ditch him for someone else in their pocket. But Bush is their one and only hope. No other 'reliable' GOP figure has anywhere near the national popularity that Bush does.
