Has the WP decided to become a newspaper again?
Recently I've noticed the Washington Post has done at least three articles putting the lie to the shrub administration's propaganda machine:

1. The article detailing the latest leaked British memo.

2. The article stating that the administration is inflating the number of terrorist convictions.

3. The article giving a true picture of the situation in Iraq.

Have the recent memories of Watergate shamed them into becoming like the paper they once were? Or is this just a passing phase?

1. Don't say that
I want to think they are for real at last. I may even buy a copy tomorrow am.

3. I really don't know
I'm still skeptic but maybe the "management" is bringing Bush down or something. I read about a week or two ago a post someone made with Bilderberg and they were all aruging about Iran. Majority didn't want Bush to go but he still wants to because of his sick PNAC plans. A lot of our press is involved with them so maybe they're wanting to bring Bush down or something. :tinfoilhat: <-- I think I need that.

4. They were absolutely fearless during Watergate.
I wonder if the press is finally waking up? Realizing they have not been doing they're job as of late. Or is it just that shrub's numbers are tanking and they don't have to be as afraid anymore?

6. I was thinking myself that bush's sinking poll numbers might
give some of the media a little more courage. Hope so. Better late than never.

7. Yep! LOL.
I remember, though, that as fearless as the WP was during Watergate, it took at least a year or more before they were taken seriously. Kind of gives me hope. Up until that point, the media dumped on them pretty good. But they stuck to their guns! And look what happened.

8. Rather was on cspan a couple of hours ago
I was surprised when he said that getting the Watergate story out was so difficult. The Nixon WH wanted it kept to the WP so they could belittle it as just them. Then CBS ran with it. The first night they did a 22 minute story and Rather said that management was called by the WH and told that they did not want this to be continued. CBS did do the second night but it was way shortened. Rather's point was that the WH is very powerful, they really do get calls about what to air, it isn't just us imagining this. And this was way back then so it isn't a new thing. Once it was out it sort got a life of its own. Rerun is a 1am. It was good.

2. Perhaps Shrub's dropping approval numbers could make it easier
for them to actually do their job.

9. Was it the WP that did that
article, I think it was yesterday, about at what point does he become 'the unpopular President'?

10. Don't know,
but the way they've been reporting on shrub's administration lately, it wouldn't surprise me. Go Washington Post!!!

11. A couple of WP reporters stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last nite...
Let's just say Watergate lasted months upon months with consistent committed reporting. I am willing to give credit that they did a great job on this story - today after how long :eyes:.

These are the same characters that buried dissent about this forsaken War and relegated dissent to somewhere near the classifieds and the comics. A really sustained good job must occur before I give them journalist creds/standards.

14. Agreed.
This does not quite make a trend. Just a little ray of sunshine.

12. media
I think this past Friday's censure (of discussion on Patriot) by Sensenbrenner and the administration's insistence that US aid recipients sign wavers (offering immunity to US citizens/corporations who commit human rights violations) are two prime examples that show just how far off the deep end this administration has gone. Hopefully the media is belatedly picking up on this; I hope they realize just how close we are to a coup.

15. Which coup are you talking about?
the one in 2000? or the one in 2004? or is there another one in the works? I'm couped out!:silly:
