Gay Rights/Schools
Edited on Sun Jun-12-05 12:05 AM by ls317
Kerry Pacer, who fought for a Gay Straight Alliance at her White County, Georgia, high school has received the Courageous Leadership Award from Georgia Equality for "showing extreme courage in adverse circumstances." Kerry, who was on a spring-break trip, was represented at the awards by her father. In a taped statement, she said: "I've been told that if you allow someone to keep you down because of a difference in beliefs, then you are no better than your oppressor. I couldn't let that happen in this case. I had to go forward and do what I could to make sure all students have a voice and a safe place to go."
