looks interesting, but I'm curious about how well it illuminates things . . . and at what distance . . .

1. Never seen THAT one...
But I have a small Dorcy single LED flashlight that's powered by an AA cell. It's great.

I have another with 7 LED's that I use for a bike headlight. it's great, too.

2. I'd go with the CatEye EL 300.
It really lights it up, and lasts about 30 hours on rechargable AA's.
