When Tony Blair goes down, will we think impeachment? |
|
Thank god for the British media. To those more familiar with Brit politics than me, what is the worst thing that can happen to Tony now? Will he just leave office in a mild disgrace or will there be more?
Then, since Tony is George's partner in crime, all eyes will turn to us. If the DSM & new leaks are seen as the catalyst for Blair's downfall, they will have to be seen as signifant here. Maybe this is wishful thinking, but I see it as one of the few things that will spur some action on making Bush pay for his lies.

Bush can be impeached. It is defeatist bullshit to say that our only hope is to give him more time. That is what you say when you suggest our only hope is in the next election cycle. We have the tool of impeachment available to us and its use is not restricted to times when an election is far in the future.

Bush cannot be impeached unless proceedings are brought against him in Congress.
How would that happen in a Republican majority (which it is until 2006)?
Are you saying it's possible that Republicans will wake up and demand this of their leaders?

17. well then explain to me why a REPUG CONGRESS WILL DO IT? |
|
Have you seen the justices they nominated?
It is NOT a defeatest attitude if they don't fix the voting system, it is reality
and by the way, if they are able to get all the Federal Judges in, including the Supreme Court, you can forget about it for the next 20 years

I don't think that much will happen. Blair will stay in office, and the DSM will shrink away. Good to see Conyers on the job, but I think you are overgeneralizing. Remember that most people don't follow politics as fiercely as we do; hell some haven't even heard of the DSM.
I bet the spin doctors will be able to handle all of this. But I hope not.

4. I'm not sure how Tony's going down? He was just re-elected? |
|
Also, Mr. Blair is distinctly different from Cuckoo Bananas in the way that he actually *talks* to the people. He gets on TV, and is asked questions from citizens. He has Prime Minister's questions in Parliament all the time. He may be peddling bullshit, but he's very earnest and 'honest' about it.
I'd love to get the ball rolling on a Bush removal, but I'd disagree that the critical point would be when Blair "goes down"--don't expect that to happen. I also agree that 2006 is much more important.

8. It was my understanding that Blair's party was re-elected in hopes |

of replacing Blair. I agree that politically bush & Blair are very different (I can almost emphasize with Blair as a human being for instance), but with all the new leaks coming out in the UK & the pressure already very strong on Blair I think it will only increase.

The election has been over for a while now, and no one has mentioned replacing Tony (right? I don't know).
Eh, I'm funny in that I like Tony Blair and feel he should stay right where he is. I think he made a huge mistake hitching his train to Dummy McLiarpants... and obviously his mistake has ramifications for all of us.

Blair will be out in two years, because their system allows it, ours doesn't without impeachment

You described my hopes - I really would like the Republicans to wake up and see what a liability their "leaders" are to them and IMPEACH. Please be sure to let the Times know how grateful you are for reporting on this: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=3839506&mesg_id=3839506Kittenpants, thanks for already doing that. :)
