THE LIE OF THE CENTURY
There is nothing new in a government lying to their people to start a war. Indeed because most people prefer living in peace to bloody and horrific death in war, any government that desires to initiate a war usually lies to their people to create the illusion that support for the war is the only possible choice they can make.

President McKinley told the American people that the USS Maine had been sunk in Havana Harbor by a Spanish mine. The American people, outraged by this apparent unprovoked attack, supported the Spanish American War. The Captain of the USS Maine had insisted the ship was sunk by a coal bin explosion, investigations after the war proved that such had indeed been the case. There had been no mine.

2. re: Lie of the Century
Good choice. I'll go with Nixon's "I'm not a crook" line. Of course, I don't think anyone believed him but still...:)

3. I've always said we have entered the second Gilded Age.

Sorry, folks, but the Nazi analogies are inaccurate- this administration most resembles the robber-baron, social Darwinist mentality of the turn of the 20th Century, which led to Progressivism in this country in the first place. No wonder they're bent on dismantling 80 years of progressive reform.

Your post made me think, and you are absolutely correct. This admin does resemble the robber-baron era.

9. Well, they are the same people, the gang's
all here. All the old uber rich families. The ones that were the robber barons, the ones that produced the Great Depression, the ones that funded and supported the Nazis and eugenics, the ones producing the current pre-depression era. They are the same old gang, that's why it all smells familiar.

It's why people get all tripped up as to whether they are Nazis or robber barons...they are the same rich people playing the same evil game.

10. They aren't inaccurate...the same families, plus a few more that were the
robber barons are the same families that engineered the Great Depression and the same families that financed and supported the Nazis are the same families who are currently engineering this next Great Depression. They are always the same uber rich families we have always struggled against...the Rockefellers, the Mellons, the Bushes, etc...they are always at the bottom of it.

This is why it always smells the same.

6. The lie of the 19th century was followed by interminable lies in the 20th
century's last fifty years that, among others, got this nation bogged down in a land war on the Asian continent. But never, never, never have so many lies been orchestrated by so many people over such a long period of time as the lie of the 21th century.
