Remarks on Howard Dean (Wes Clark)
Wes spoke tonight at the Annual Flag Day Dinner--Manchester City Democratic Committee in New Hampshire.

According to WesPAC:

General Clark in his remarks reminded us that we owe it to ourselves and our party to rise above bitter name calling and partisan fighting so we can, as a nation tackle the tough challenges ahead. He said he was proud of our party and proud of Howard Dean for being a fighter.

C-Span was there taping, so his entire speech should be on at some point.

12. Hey WesDem I was there too and heard Wes!
He was terrific, as usual.

When he made that statement about Howard, people really were pleased, and clapped loudly.

He also spoke of our need to improve the dialogue in this country and rise above the partisan politics. He spoke movingly of the flag and its symbolism, as well as about our men and women in uniform.

15. Gush alert!
I love this man! Wasn't someone asking on a thread today about why he would be a great President? Well, here's another reason. The man is almost perfect.

16. What about Vietnam?
It's my understanding that Wes Clark was a fervent supporter of that war and of the Nixon administration, even giving public speeches to promote the war.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to trash him or anything, because I like most of what he has to say today.

As I step into my tin-foil cap, I will share a private fear I had when he was running for president: I wondered if, perhaps, he was a plant by republican operatives. They would win no matter who was elected. After all, didn't he support the republican agenda up until just a few years ago?

Just a thought, but it is a great quote!

:-)

All your questions will be answered, in full. Lots of great political discussions during the run-up to the *cough* election.

Welcome to DU, ripple! :hi:

19. Uh huh. With enough friends like Clark
The Republicans will join the Whigs in the history books. It was mostly Republicans who tried to peddle that image of Clark before the Primaries, trying to keep Democrats from giving him the nomination because Clark is superb at GIVING THEM HELL (remember his line about Bush "prancing around on the deck of an aircraft carrier"?. Real progressives like Michael Moore saw right through that shit.

Before people got the chance to see Clark out there fighting for the Democrats during the 2004 campaign, I had some sympathy for how someone MIGHT have a paranoid fear like the one you just expressed. But Clark delivered the goods for Kerry/Edwards countless times.

Were you out of the country or something?

20. You're new here
Do not disrespect Clark's service to this country. Don't even try it. That's my advice.
