Country of Origin Labeling for meat - God forbid we know what we're eating
I'm already eating less and less meat - this might do the trick for full-time vegetarianism for me.

The history of COOL is remarkable, especially considering that consumers already must be told the origin of everything from toys to shoes, shirts to auto parts.

Thinking that perhaps consumers would want to know the origin of the food they eat every day, Congress finally passed COOL as part of the 2002 farm bill.

Keeping COOL alive and on schedule has been a battle ever since, thanks in large part to food processors and producers who don't want us to have this information. They have a powerful ally in the No. 1 Texan, President Bush.

Opponents of COOL have made outlandish claims about the costs of implementing it, and a couple of bills (from Texas and Arkansas senators) are in the works to repeal the 2002 mandate altogether.
