Wow. A Christian American Flag.

This from Pandagon:

Wingnuts are attempting to create a Christian American flag.

Marcia Thompson Eldreth sees in the United States a Christian nation, inspired by Scripture and dedicated to propositions conveyed in biblical prophesy. She asks: Why not a U.S. national Christian flag?
"Our nation was based on Judeo-Christian principles," Eldreth said. "Blessed is the country whose God is Lord."

35. Yeah. It looks like they copied it from that NRA sticker...
With the eagle flying in the circle thing. They got fifty stars, so I think they believe all fifty states want to come along with them! When some of the wing-nut church's begin to fly this flag is when common Joe should wake up from his dream of tax cuts and war on terra to see what the fascists really have in store for him.

95. Very forward looking...
Of Crimes. And first, of such as deserve capital punishment, or cutting off from a man's people, whether by death or banishment.
1. FIRST, blasphemy, which is a cursing of God by atheism, or the like, to be punished with death.

2. Idolatry to be punished with death.

3. Witchcraft, which is fellowship by covenant with a familiar spirit, to be punished with death.

4. Consulters with witches not to be tolerated, but either to be cut off by death or banishment.

5. Heresy, which is the maintenance of some wicked errors, overthrowing the foundation of the christian religion; which obstinacy, if it be joined with endeavour to seduce others thereunto, to be punished with death; because such an heretick, no less than an idolater, seeketh to thrust the souls of men from the Lord their God.

6. To worship God in a molten or graven image, to be punished with death.

7. Such members of the church, as do wilfully reject to walk, after due admonition and conviction, in the churches' establishment, and their christian admonition and censures, shall be cut off by banishment.

8. Whosoever shall revile the religion and worship of God, and the government of the church, as it is now established, to be cut off by banishment. Cor. 5:5.

9. Wilful perjury, whether before the judgment seat or in private conference, to be punished with death.

10. Rash perjury, whether in public or in private, to be punished with banishment. Just is it, that such a man's name should be cut off from his people who profanes so grosly the name of God before his people.

11. Profaning of the Lord's day, in a careless and scornful neglect or contempt thereof, to be punished with death.

12. To put in practice the betraying of the country, or any principal fort therein, to the hand of any foreign state, Spanish, French, Dutch, or the like, contrary to the allegiance we owe and profess to our dread sovereign, lord king Charles (replace with: George), his heirs and successors, whilst he is pleased to protect us as his loyal subjects, to be punished with death. Num. 12:14, 15.

28. What about non-Christians?
If they get what they want, they're going to repeat the same mistakes that were made in the last 1000 years over in Europe where you'll have second class citizens for the simple fact that they aren't the right religion. Jews, Gypsies, Pagans, Wiccans, and others learned this first hand with many losing their lives.

It is dangerous to enshrine one brand of religion into government over all others. If Christianity, what brand? The Southern Baptist version? Pentecostal? Methodist? How about Catholic?

109. You don't need to be any denomination to be fundamentalist
Religion or philosophy is something that is up to each individual. Some are very extremist in ideology, and I don't have a problem with odd views per se or views far out of the mainstream, but what I do have a problem with is intolerance for differing views.

Take me for example: My views align fairly close with that of Deism. Some people call me "out there," but the difference between me and a militant fundamentalist is that I don't advocate killing Catholics or Protestants or everyone else who isn't a Deist or using less violent forms of coercion and intimidation on everyone else to advance my own philosophy above theirs.

When I say "coercion and intimidation," I mean using the fear of damnation to hell or some other mechanism to try to convert people. I don't claim to know what God's will is, so I have no grounds to judge others. I only use what was given to me: The light and gift of reason. I was given that gift for a purpose, and I don't believe throwing it away on dogma and superstition is what was originally intended.

There are good reasons against murdering and raping and inflicting all sorts of misery upon a fellow human being, and it isn't necessarily because a book says so but because it hurts us all in the end. I am not against murder because, for instance, the Bible says so. I am against murder because of reason and humanity.

Though I'm not a Catholic, but anyways, they have a way around that. Something with the Spirit and Holy Ghost (sorry my Catholic brothers/sisters, I must be mangling this) and Jesus becoming one with God after his crucifixion. I never understood it myself.

57. Not to insult anyone.
I'm a Jewish atheist. So I don't have to pretend that the Trinity makes sense. It doesn't if you profess to be monotheistic.

What I usually boil it down to is my definition of faith. (Which I will attest is slightly tounge in cheek.)

Faith is the capacity to believe something that you know is false.

And I'm sure I explained the Trinity very badly, not being Catholic. But I agree with your definition of faith. That's why it's not amenable to logic or persuasion. Which can make it dangerous, as well.

"Phones were ringing steadily on six lines, Eldreth said, when a thunderstorm rolled in over the house.

"I turned on the prayer and worship music because it started to feel like a spiritual attack," Eldreth said. She recalled stepping to the front door in time to see lightning strike a utility pole across the road: "I saw a ball of blue fire come off that telephone pole."

The bolt knocked out the phones until the next morning. Eldreth understood it as a sign.

"I took it as spiritual warfare," Eldreth said. "I grinned when the fire come off the pole." She said she thought, "Thanks for the affirmation, Satan."

the Puritans on their way here from England. Everything was a sign, and every outcome was constructed as foretold by the sign. But that was THREE HUNDRED YEARS AGO!

67. Benjamin Franklin's Letter Comparing the Eagle and the Turkey
"For my own part I wish the Bald Eagle had not been chosen the Representative of our Country. He is a Bird of bad moral Character. He does not get his Living honestly. You may have seen him perched on some dead Tree near the River, where, too lazy to fish for himself, he watches the Labour of the Fishing Hawk; and when that diligent Bird has at length taken a Fish, and is bearing it to his Nest for the Support of his Mate and young Ones, the Bald Eagle pursues him and takes it from him.

"With all this Injustice, he is never in good Case but like those among Men who live by Sharping & Robbing he is generally poor and often very lousy. Besides he is a rank Coward: The little King Bird not bigger than a Sparrow attacks him boldly and drives him out of the District. He is therefore by no means a proper Emblem for the brave and honest Cincinnati of America who have driven all the King birds from our Country . . .

"I am on this account not displeased that the Figure is not known as a Bald Eagle, but looks more like a Turkey. For the Truth the Turkey is in Comparison a much more respectable Bird, and withal a true original Native of America . . . He is besides, though a little vain & silly, a Bird of Courage, and would not hesitate to attack a Grenadier of the British Guards who should presume to invade his Farm Yard with a red Coat on."

111. I love those flags! Especially the "Culpepper" Flag!
http://store1.yimg.com/I/united-states-flag_1847_27948605

History
This flag represented a group of about one hundred minutemen form Culpeper, Virginia. The group formed part of Colonel Patrick Henry's First Virginia Regiment of 1775. In October - November 1775 three hundred such minutemen, led by Colonel Stevens, assembled at Culpeper Court House and marched for Williamsburg. Their unusual dress alarmed the people as they marched through the country. The word "Liberty Or Death" were in large white letters on the breast of their hunting shirts. They had bucks' tails in their hats and in their belts, tomahawks and scalping knives.

I want a Culpepper flag...I want to dress and alarm the Christian Whack Jobs wanting to take over this country.... :patriot:

97. Oh good, let's desecrate both the flag and Christianity
If they're going to quote Matthew, they might want to take a look at Matthew 6:5 and 6:6.

<5> And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
<6> But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

In a previous post I mentioned the "Render unto Caeser that which is Caeser's" quote. Apparently, fundamentilist Christians don't read their Bible well enough. Jesus, in my opinion, was definitely in favor of separating church and state. I'm a godless heathen and at least I know that much. Scary times. :scared:

119. She ought to Google "Christian flag" -- she'd learn it already exists!

I was somewhat horrified to learn this myself a few years back. It's been flying under the radar for years now.

Chances are fairly good you've seen it yourself, draped on a flagpole next to a stage or altar, along with the U.S. flag and possibly your state flag. Did you ever investigate what the other flags up there with the Stars and Stripes were/are?
