Another Dean flip flop (switches sports teams)
Edited on Mon Sep-22-03 05:53 PM by quinnox
From the AP:

The Kerry campaign, reacting to the news that Dean will hold a rally in Boston Tuesday, brushed back the former Vermont governor by labeling him a New York Yankees fans.

Not so, said the New York-born Dean, who argued that he dumped the Yankees for the Boston Red Sox three years ago. Dean told the Boston Herald that Yankees pitcher Roger Clemens' beaning of Mets catcher Mike Piazza during the 2000 season was the final straw in his support for the team; he called the Yankees' charge "the biggest insult."

That didn't placate the Kerry campaign, which described Dean's switch as the latest in a series.

"Of all the flip flops, this is the most inexplicable and indefensible," Kerry spokeswoman Kelley Benander said Monday. "It's like switching from the Redskins to the Cowboys or from Carolina to Duke."

Why does Dean have to pander all the time, even over insignificant stuff like this?

1. I think that all of them were joking a bit ...
but I know how to test to see if Dean is a real Sox fan. Someone who sees him in person, say, "Buckner," and tell us his response.

2. That's not a real test.
See if he can say "Bucky Dent" without an appropriate insertion between the names. :-)

very specific ways...

:D

on edit: if you look at his face when you say Buckner, that will tell the tale. No scowl, no red, no Sox.

3. Vermonters typically prefer Boston teams over NY teams
So it's really not surprising that Dean likes the Red Sox.

7. Obviously
the Kerry campaign are trying to attach the flip-flop meme to something the average joe "gets".

Nice try, fellas. Patronizing, but nice try none the less.

9. Ha!Ha! A silly story like this was circulated against Hillary
when she was running for senate: that time she was not trusted to be an actual Yankees fan (which she was).
I believe that, before being bought over, The Daily news also ran a headline during the mayoral campaign: "Bloomberg is a Sox fan"
I guess I am missing a gene, I don't understand this fixation with sports teams.

10. Yeah, well I used to be a Dodger's fan
until Rupert Murdoch bought them. Now I hope every year that they lose 120 games a year.

11. Another "when did you quit beating your wife" question?
Edited on Mon Sep-22-03 06:09 PM by NNN0LHI
Again. There is no correct answer. Who the hell is sitting around thinking this crap up to ask? Makes me wonder? Sounds like dirty tricks to me. And the media is helping out too.

An example would be my state, Illinois. The top half of the state likes the Cubs or Sox. The bottom half are Cardinal fans. Hey governor. Which baseball team do you like best? Ummm, emmmm, ummmm, I don't know? Don't sound like presidential material. What we have to realize is that there are a lot of unanswerable questions out there when one is a politician, and not dwell on them.

Don

12. I have never heard of switching between those teams
They should be talking to the Guiness Book people over this.

Its got nothing to do with politics but, I mean damn, you just CANT go from the Yankees to the Red Sox. Or visa versa. Especially over something that the Rocket did !

Good thing I was sitting down when I read this !

15. If this is the best the Kerry camp can do against Dean
Edited on Mon Sep-22-03 06:26 PM by khephra
Then Kerry might as well quit now.

Seems I remember a whole lot of moaning from the Kerry camp about a certain "cheesestake incident". They wailed and gnashed their teeth over how pathetic that was. So what do they do? This?

Pathetic. Really fucking pathetic.

Kerry, you better get a refund on the people who are running your campaign. They're fucking idiots.

You know, I also heard that Dean recently decided to switch from Heinz to Hunts brand ketchup.
What a fucking waffler, pandering to the Hunts demographic like that when everyone knows Heinz is better!!!

Oh the humanity!

In other news: a staunch Pepsi drinker, Howard Dean was also on the wrong side during the Cola Wars.

I'm marching back over to deanforamerica.com right now and DEMANDING MY CONTRIBUTION BACK!!! :eyes:
