Will Bush insult U.N. ? Or ...
will he be humbled and plead for help admitting he was "ahead of the curve" on his invasision of Iraq? Will he then offer to share authority and be a team player?

3. the UN
man i hate the UN, wish it would reform itself, stop electing the libyas and syrias of the world. Makes a joke of the whole process. I liken it to electing the crack dealer to the local neighbourhood watch.

14. 'Scuse me, MDD...
...wrong forum. Take it to the Freepers.

I know I'm wasting precious electrons here, but the UN is our best and only hope (at the present) for controlling insanity around the world. Khofi Anan is certainly not a "crack dealer," and is, in fact, a decent, intelligent, thoughtful man.

And the UN CERTAINLY isn't swayed by the multinational corporate orgy to extract all the world's resources like a swarm of locusts. WE NEED THE UN MORE NOW THAN EVER!

Again, please take your anti-UN rhetoric (which we've all heard about a million times before -- yawn) to the Freepers, where they'll agree with you and even throw in some of the latest about the black helicopters. Pretty please?

20. kofi anan
MMMM were did i say kofi anan was a crack dealer, i said electing syria or libya to committees on human rights etc was like electing a crack dealer. Personally i think the UN is finished, and its about time, having had to stand by and watch people being butchered as some UN official tried to keep neutral done it for me. i would prefer if the democrasies of the world came together, and then have a program were other nations could debate etc. I think the way the UN goes after Israel is all we need to see that there is something wrong. As to being a freeper, your opinion, i have mine.

4. No
He's going to go in like Godzilla and say we need your help but we're not admitting any mistakes and we're not giving up any authority. I'll faint if it's anything less than that. I've given up hope of this man EVER admitting it might have been wrong and we need a compromise.

7. His mere presence is an insult to the UN
I'm sure he will be his old arrogant self.

Remember when you stood there in front of the UN and said that they would become irrelevant if they didn't join you in your little adventure in Iraq? Remember that?

The UN irrelevant? Then why you going there you freaking idiot?

I hope they tell him to pound salt (I'm not exactly sure what 'pounding salt' means or why it's an insult, but I'm sure that it is).

18. Or maybe not -- here's a different story
Searching under the alternate form, "go pound sand," turned up this:

http://www.wordwizard.com/clubhouse/founddiscuss.asp?Num=2897

David McCullough's Truman reports that on 12 October 1948 Truman commented to advisor Clark Clifford regarding a Newsweek poll of fifty reporters that gave Truman no chance to win the election: "I know every one of these fifty fellows. There isn't one of them has enough sense to pound sand in a rat hole." This certainly is a possible origin. While it is unlikely that Truman coined the phrase himself, it seems likely that it is an aphorism that he knew and used. Filling rat holes with sand is menial work, and telling someone to pound sand down a hole would be like telling them to go fly a kite.

<snip>

The origin of the expression go pound sand is from a longer expression, not to know (have enough sense to) pound sand down a rathole. Filling rat holes with sand is menial work, and telling someone to pound sand down a hole is like telling them to go fly a kite. The expression dates to at least 1912 and is common in the midwestern United States.

10. He refuses to learn, so he will be taught, again, and again, and again.
The UN is in the cat bird seat and * is a beggar coming with hat in hand , only he acts like Little Lord Faulteroy. I think after he is totally humiliated ONE MORE TIME he will be out. Early retirement or a real invesitgation into 9/11 might be the gist of the deal.

15. No. He won't trash them.
He's a typical bully. When confronted, when he's in trouble, he knows how to back down. He did it with the Chinese spy plane, e.g. His bluster is where he's comfortable, but he is very, very competitive, and he's not going to put the shiv into his own ribs.

Edited on Mon Sep-22-03 07:07 PM by protect freedom impe
Bush the PNAC puppet will take his shoe off and start
banging the table over & over.

A complete meltdown likely to continue his crooked
downfall.

--------------------

for you younger DUers .... this did in fact occur in the UN.

Only it was the Soviet Union's Khrushchev. He banged his shoe against a desk at the United Nations, promising to crush capitalism.
