"scores of african americans were brutaLized & suffered great injustices"
yep, onLy scores.

MR. McCLELLAN: This was a terrible, dark chapter in our own nation's history, and scores of African Americans and their families were brutalized and suffered great injustices.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/06/20050613-3.html

WASHINGTON - The U.S. Senate apologized Monday for never having outlawed lynching, which between 1880 and 1960 took the lives of more than 4,700 people, most of them blacks.

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/krwashbureau/20050613/ts_krwashbureau/_bc_lynching_wa_1

4700 - and that doesn't even incLude the scores of african americans who were brutaLized and/or suffered great injustices, but not necessariLy Lynched.

1. Not to mention the
untold thousands that "enjoyed" the hospitality of their slavemasters whips and chains for the previous 3 or 4 hundred years in Merka.

2. The Tulsa massacre
is believed to have resulted in the deaths of some 2,000 African Americans in one night alone.

It included the first instance of aerial bombardment of a civilian population.

Although they've got a different fatality estimate than what I've heard reported on PBS.

More, a CNN article, upper estimate: 3,000 dead.

24. And worse...
On May 23, 1917, a fleet of 21 Gothas appeared over the English coastal town of Folkestone. On the deadliest day of bombing yet, 95 people were killed, and England began to panic. At noon on June 13, another Gotha fleet dropped bombs onto London. For the next month, the daily raids on the capital city met with little opposition from the Royal Air Force, angering the population of London. Production levels within the city dropped. Citizens felt that their government was incapable of protecting them. They demanded that the military protect them and stop the bombs. They felt exposed and helpless, just as German military strategists had hoped they would.

http://www.centennialofflight.gov/essay/Air_Power/WWI_Bombing/AP3.htm

It is probably the first bombing of a American city, and the first by American aircraft... which is the sort of double first that's not much of an honor.
