How can Clark be leading when he said he was a republican...
if Karl Rove only called him back.

UNFUCKINGBELIEVABLE!

Are the democrats just stupid or what?

And even Clinton's hand is being waved around in all of this. Isn't this fucking Orwelian? Who controls the past, controls the future!

Really now.

If any of you have a brain...please support a true candidate who isn't just a puppet but is solid on the issues that matter to everyday americans...support Dennis Kucinich or let this country go to hell.

Clark Never Called Karl
Wesley Clark says he would have been a Republican if Karl Rove had returned his phone calls. White House phone logs suggest otherwise.
by Matthew Continetti
09/22/2003 1:45:00 PM

Matthew Continetti, editorial assistant

"WHEN WILL Wesley Clark stop telling tall tales? In the current issue of Newsweek, Howard Fineman reports Clark told Colorado Gov. Bill Owens and University of Denver president Mark Holtzman that "I would have been a Republican if Karl Rove had returned my phone calls."

Unfortunately for Clark, the White House has logged every incoming phone call since the beginning of the Bush administration in January 2001. At the request of THE DAILY STANDARD, White House staffers went through the logs to check whether Clark had ever called White House political adviser Karl Rove. The general hadn't. What's more, Rove says he doesn't remember ever talking to Clark, either. "

4. You've never heard of sarcasm?
Sarcasm doesn't really play well in the printed word, but the article should have said "if only Karl Rove would have called me back!" instead of the period.

For all I know, your entire post was sarcastic.

12. it's sarcasm that insults the dem party
even if it was sarcasm, which i doubt, it is sarcasm that belittles the dem party (which would have been Clark's second choice). one more piece of evidence that Clark is a "democrat of expediency" only.

besides the fact that he was fundraising for the repubs only 2 years ago.

besides the fact that he wouldn't publicly admit he was a democrat until about 2 weeks ago.

19. We'll go through this again.
:)

Military men do not usually divulge their political affiliations. If you want to ignore/dispute that, then consider any professional whose services you regularly seek. Do you know if they are a Republican or a Democrat? Your doctor? Your mechanic? Do you tell everyone you have a business relationship with your political feelings? Clark had no reason to get into that until he was sure he was running.

As for this whole "belittling the Dem party"...I just don't see it. We can argue about that all day long. Is Al Franken's book really a fair and balanced look at the right? Since you're reading Clark's words literally, I assume you think so? We have zero context, and the sources are two Bush supporters. As we know, they all tell the truth.

As to the fundraising, I don't have enough information. Even paired with the Reagan voting...I don't believe Clark is Maxine Waters with a uniform, that is okay with me. But people can't have it both ways--is Clark a Clinton sockpuppet, or is he a Republican? Of course, I think neither.

30. so is this "sarcasm" an example of Clark's diplomatic skills?
Military men do not usually divulge their political affiliations. If you want to ignore/dispute that, then consider any professional whose services you regularly seek. Do you know if they are a Republican or a Democrat? Your doctor? Your mechanic? Do you tell everyone you have a business relationship with your political feelings? Clark had no reason to get into that until he was sure he was running.

your excuses don't make any sense. Clark isn't in the military any more. political parties are a major feature of the civilian political landscape. if he can't adjust his thinking to that fact, then he shouldn't be running. you say he had no reason to declare his affiliation, but i strongly disagree. the reason he should have joined the party was/is to support its ideals. if he believed in the things the dem party stands for, then he should have joined earlier. or if he didn't believe in the things the dem party stands for, then he should never have joined.

Clark fundraised for the repubs as recently as 2001, long after his supposed "conversion" by Clinton in 1992. Clark clearly has a misunderstanding of what the word "loyalty" means.

now, the story comes about about Clark saying he "would have been a republican if"... Clark's own supporters aren't denying it, they're just trying to say that the calls never happened. as if that were a defense. if this is some kind of "humor", it's about as funny as a Rumsfeld press conference. Clark saying he would have been a repub under that condition is a slam at dems. it indicates he does not really believe in what the dem party stands for. it's great fodder for the repub party, if the best the dems can do is nominate someone who apparently has a greater affinity for the repub party, and would have been on the other side if a certain GOP operative had only been more polite.

Clark sounds more and more like a mole every day.

5. if you ask me
the comment was one of those "truth through sarcasm" comments... what was that term franken used in his book?

either way, here's a snip fromt the article... YOU decide if he was probably serious or not... it's pretty apparent to me.

<snip>
After Al Qaeda attacked America, retired Gen. Wes Clark thought the Bush administration would invite him to join its team. After all, he’d been NATO commander, he knew how to build military coalitions and the investment firm he now worked for had strong Bush ties. But when GOP friends inquired, they were told: forget it.

WORD WAS THAT Karl Rove, the president’s political mastermind, had blocked the idea. Clark was furious. Last January, at a conference in Switzerland, he happened to chat with two prominent Republicans, Colorado Gov. Bill Owens and Marc Holtzman, now president of the University of Denver. “I would have been a Republican,” Clark told them, “if Karl Rove had returned my phone calls.” Soon thereafter, in fact, Clark quit his day job and began seriously planning to enter the presidential race—as a Democrat.

anything's decided, but in the meantime, people can smell your fear a mile away, and it does nothing for Dean.

13. Contradiction in MSNBC report
Edited on Mon Sep-22-03 07:02 PM by StephNW4Clark
"Soon thereafter, in fact, Clark quit his day job and began seriously planning to enter the presidential race—as a Democrat."

NO. If that occurred in January 2003, General Clark did NOT quit his "day job" with CNN until June - not "soon thereafter." And "began seriously planning to enter the presidential race"?

In case you hadn't noticed, there was something called the DraftWesleyClark movement. And his supporters had to wait more than 6 months for an announcement or an inkling that he would run. And if you want to just use recent events, the fact that he barely has a campaign organizational structure leads to the conclusion that he DIDN'T plan to enter the face for a while - unless, of course, all the campaign confusion is in fact a facade.

8. Hardball tonight
Was a perfect example of what the RW talking points are and will be for another day probably.

First …Clark surges to the lead!!! Then the Hillary connection “Is she behind this”?

I get it. This is intended to demoralize the Dean/Kerry/Kucinich supporters. These people in the party are probably the most idealistic of the party. Thy are the ones that are most likely to say, “This smells like shit to me” and say “why bother with these people, it is all rigged anyway”
We must stop letting then control the subject, and that is just what they are doing. And WE (That is, all of the idealist of the world) not to be dissuaded from our goal by trickery.
Keep the faith baby.

23. He has a small following
And combined with Dean and Kerry it amounts to a lot of votes lost. And they do not need to attack him, just the moral of his following.
