A true outrage from my home county
http://www.starbeacon.com/?MC=NEWS&NID=1&AID=8473

Jeannie Donaldson’s horror learning that her son had been beaten senseless by a fellow prisoner was compounded when the prosecutor said he couldn’t pursue all inmate-on-inmate crimes because of budget cuts.

"I feel it’s totally wrong," Donaldson said. "My son died four times and they brought him back."

Ashtabula County Prosecutor Thomas L. Sartini said some crimes at the Lake Erie Correctional Institution went unprosecuted as his budget dwindled from $1 million to about $640,000, forcing him to lay off four of 12 assistant prosecutors. He said fewer than 10 crimes went unprosecuted at the 1,389-inmate prison over the past eight or 10 months.

end of quote

This prison is actually in my hometown and I worked unsuccessfully to unseat this prosecutor. Fortunately some money has been found so that this outrage won't be repeated for at least some time. The message sent by this is beyond words. Our county has been fiscally bancrupt for some time but now we are morally bancrupt as well.

3. Sadly he can't even be sued
as prosecutors are immune from lawsuits for decisions to prosecute or not prosecute.

4. somehow I knew this would be in Ohio before I even read it.
There's no end & there are crooks in every corner of the state it seems. At least they're being flushed out to some extent.
