The Republicans from blue-state Maine and the Democrats from deep-red North Dakota.

The least popular: Inhofe and Coburn from Oklahoma.

1. My guess as to why
Repubs who want to win in a deep blue state, or Dems who want to win in a deep red state, have to be very moderate to have any chance.

5. Sounds good. Also, they are more likely compromise, less likely
to be hardline.

I've watched Murdering Joe Scarborough maybe twice in my life, but one of those times--I think election night--he ranted about how redistricting was killing COngress. He said that both parties now make deals during redistrictng to divide regions into safe Republican and safe Democratic regions, and the result is that Congress increasingly comprises extremists from both parties with fewer moderates. Even Scarborough said this would destroy the government eventually.

2. Who was polled?
Was the approval rating done by the senators' respective constituents or nationwide?

6. Inside the district.
99% of the population hasn't heard of Kent Conrad or Olympia Snowe.

4. Sounds like another fixed poll. There's nothing in the middle here.

7. There are others with equal or greater popularity on this poll, though...
Check out McCain, both Senators from Vermont, etc...

8. Of course, but four of the top six are from ME and ND
That's pretty impressive.
