BURNING UP 9/11 MONEY
Edited on Tue Jun-14-05 01:23 PM by KzooDem
Far be it from me to malign a 9/11 widow, but methinks this woman (and her daughter) deserve a decidedly long stay at the Purgatory B&B after their time on earth is up. I'm sorry...I just don't buy the "I-was-so-distraught-I-just-HAD-to-spend-the-millions-donated-to-me-to-go-on-with-life" song and dance number this broad is selling.

Her grief, and that of her daughter, is no different than any other wife or daughter who tragically and unexpectedly loses their husband and father.

IMHO, this woman is nothing more than a common barnyard sow with a bank account:

BURNING UP 9/11 MONEY
Sept. 11 widow Kathy Trant has turned her Long Island home into a $2 million showcase, traveled from the Vatican to Las Vegas, blown $500,000 on shoes, and bought breast jobs for pals and even strangers.

In the 31/2 years since her husband, Dan, died in the World Trade Center attacks, she has burned through nearly all the more than $5 million she received in compensation and donations. She says she treated the millions "like Monopoly money."

-snip-

The kitchen has white marble countertops lined with gleaming appliances she rarely uses. The floors are rich Brazilian walnut.
A red-white-and-blue den, which includes a shrine of Dan's mementos, features four Peter Max paintings of the Statue of Liberty, which ran her $15,000. There are seven flat-screen TVs around the house. In the finished basement stands a $20,000 cherry-wood pool table.

-snip -

She buys wrinkle-reducing Botox injections for girlfriends. A plastic surgeon gives her a discount - $600 for three at a time. Trant tattooed an American flag and "9/11" on her back and got a permanent black stripe of "eyeliner" tattooed around her eyes, which never runs when she cries.

1. I hate to do it too...
but when I read what she blew that money on I couldn't believe it. She wasnt the only one who lost a loved one on that day. To blow all that money was insane, grief or no grief.

13. If that happened to me
I would put it all in an account for retirement and to take care of any kids. Not my friends and blow it. Maybe buy something pleasureable but not like that.

2. You know, one has to wonder
EXACTLY WHY was it that the government thought they should pay these people MILLIONS due to a 'SURPRISE ATTACK' - SOMETHING NOBODY COULD HAVE SEEN OR KNOWN WAS COMING - a TERRORIST attack???

Governments don't pay bribes - unless they need to bribe right?

but didn't a lot of that money come from the 9/11 telethon donations?? or was that a paltry drop in the bucket compared to what the government kicked in.

3. She didn't "blow it". A lot of it was spent on capital improvements to her
real estate. She would get it all back and more (at least until the housing bubble bursts!).

5. The 19 y/o daughter already spent nearly 800K --
on "clothes, vacations and friends."

How the bloody hell do you spend that much money on clothes, vacations and friends?

9. Just goes to show
dumasses can be victims too - anybody that freaking dumb to blow money on clothes, shoes, botex, boob jobs, etc., doesn't really deserve to be felt sorry for. Period.

10. I so agree -- the woman has no class at all
-- just shows herself to be vapid and into nothing of any consequence. A mindless consumer. Gee, I hope all that material "stuff" made up for the loss of her husband and made her feel real "happy." DUMBASS!

11. sadly, its not just 9/11 widows, a large number of widows
blast through whatever insurance settlement they get within 3 yrs, if I recall correctly.
(bu now I don't remember where I read that)

at any rate, there are a variety of factors: some widows were not in charge of the finances and to suddenly be in charge and "large" is overwhelming and corrosive to good sense.
or, some (though I don't think so in this case) throw money at their grief instead of dealing with it, sort of how some might gorge on chocolate ice cream to overcome loneliness.

There's a reason dance lesson studios and cruises target the newly widowed.

14. BushCo is trying to take the money back...is this a way of demonizing
the recipients to justify doing that?

I say, it's their money, they should spend it on whatever they want.
