Getting a little tired of the "so-called" crap (re: DSM)
Why is it the "so called" Downing Street Memo? Objectively, that is what people are calling it.

1. It is?
Got any links? I haven't heard that.

But even if that's the case, they have a point in that it was not named "The Downing Street Memo" by the people who authored it. It was named that by the media. And so the use of "so-called" is, in this case, perfectly apropos. The connotation may be problematic, sicne it may connote that the document is false, but on its face there's nothing wrong with this usage.

4. This sort of makes my second point.
They refer to it as "so-called" in the lead, but not after that. I think it's harmless. The same media were refering to White Water as "so-called" when Clinton was president. It's a reference to the authorship of the title, not the factual basis.

5. I'll buy that -- I guess I'm getting to be a bit too jaded.
Thanks for the perspective.

2. Downing Street Minutes.
Recorded minutes from actual meetings with officials. That's what it is, what it always will be.
